Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a Data Evaluation Specialist for the FDOH-Polk Epidemiology Program
  • Collects, analyzes, and organizes data for communicable disease and research projects
  • Conducts complex activities around surveillance and investigation of disease. This may include investigation design, targeted field investigations, interviews, and data analysis.
  • Conducts special projects/epidemiologic studies
  • Identifies data sources that can be used to identify health related events.
  • Performs descriptive and analytic epidemiologic investigations, research, and public health surveillance.
  • Assists with community health education and prevention information
  • Maintains adequate and accurate records of all services, mileage, time, attendance, and leave.
  • Collects, labels, packages, transports, and ships lab specimens in accordance with policies as necessary for the Epidemiology program.
  • Takes part in emergency duty as needed as part of FDOH-Polk

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of methods of data collection and analysis, including the ability to access and extract information from multiple databases.
  • Knowledge of public health policies and public health laws to include but not limited to information security and HIPAA. 
  • Skills in computer software programs used to facilitate job duties such as Microsoft Office Suite, R, Epi Info, SAS and/or SPSS.
  • Skills in extracting and preparing data and information into logical format for presentation in reports, documents, and other written materials that suit the needs of a variety of users. 
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to design and conduct evaluation activities and statistical surveys. 
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments and manage multiple projects. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internally and in the community. 
  • Ability to work independently using critical thinking and logic.

 

Qualifications:

  • Driver’s License required if using State of Florida Vehicle or if claiming travel reimbursement.
  • Master of Public Health Degree in epidemiology or biostatistics
