The Work You Will Do:

Survey & Mapping Office Supervisor

 

This position will direct the work of employees, coordinate training, supervise daily activities, plans workloads, and deadlines. Preforms contract administration duties and provide tech support. Coordinates and reviews office and field information.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Directs the work of employees to ensure maximum use of time and resources, and coordinates training of employees in methods for performing and effective and efficient job. Supervises the daily activities of assigned staff. Motivates employees to improve the quality and quantity of work performed. Plans workloads, workflows, deadlines, work objectives, and time utilization with employees. Evaluates subordinates, including preparing annual performance reviews and annual training plan and discussing both with subordinates.

 

Performs contract administration duties including preparation of scope of services, preliminary estimates, negotiations, and invoice reviews. Provides technical support to consultant survey staff and monitors consultants’ adherence to survey scopes pertaining to quantity, quality, and schedule.

 

Coordinates and reviews office and field information for the preparation of surveys. Process and analyze all types of collected survey data using Department approved software. Reviews processed data for completeness and accuracy. Professionally endorses work products when required

 

Directs and instructs surveyor on the gathering, processing, analyzing, and displaying of field data utilizing Florida Department of Transportation pre-approved electronic survey gathering instrumentation and computer programs.

 

Researches county, city and private survey records to obtain information useful in performing surveys. Respond to all inquiries/requests pertaining to survey information available through the survey department.

 

 

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Knowledge of:

  •  Knowledge and ability in the operation of surveying equipment; Knowledge of principles, practices, Florida laws and regulations governing the surveying and mapping profession
  •  Knowledge of the Department’s procedures, guidelines, and standards for the Offices of Surveying and Mapping, Design, & Right of Way.

Skills in:

  • Skill in the operation of personal computers and surveying and mapping software
  • Skill to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Skill in negotiating project scopes and staff hour estimates
  • Skill to coach, mentor, and motivate employees
  • Skill in processing and reviewing electronic survey data with CAiCE, Microstation, Geopak, and other Department approved software.

Ability to:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, supervise, and perform multiple projects
  • Ability to monitor and assess the performance of subordinates and consultants
  • Ability to read legal descriptions, maps, plats, and plans.

 

Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements:

  • Florida Surveyor and Mapper license in accordance with Chapter 472, Florida Statutes.

 

Other Job-Related Requirements:

  • Employee will be required to be responsive to emergency situations within a very short timeframe and serve on the Transportation Emergency Management Team.
