Position Overview and Responsibilities:
Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply.
MAINTENANCE
Identify maintenance needs through daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual checks. Maintain service schedules. Assist with the maintenance and repair of facilities, buildings, roads, bridges, trails, water systems, sewage systems, vehicles, equipment, etc., as assigned. Maintain all park grounds. Follow all labels on chemicals maintain all park SDS reference materials. Clean and service all tools, vehicles and equipment. Notify a supervisor when a piece of equipment needs repair, service, or is missing. Maintain and repair buildings, fences, trails, service roads, boardwalks, campsites, picnic areas, picnic tables and all facilities and/or park equipment. Operate all equipment tools and/or vehicles. Assist in shop maintenance and operations, and ensure all needed tools and equipment are available and
operational for staff use. Provide documentation for all regular maintenance checks and inspections
ADMINISTRATION
Assist park management in coordinating and scheduling work assignments. Report all purchasing needs in a timely manner for projects and maintenance inventories. Follow all purchasing guidelines. Complete and track vehicle and facility repair reports.
VISITOR SERVICES
Interpret park facilities and promote programs to visitors. Resolve visitor complaints. Respond to visitor questions and provide for positive guest relations. Assist Volunteer Coordinator with volunteer management. Assist in providing shop and maintenance orientation to incoming volunteers.
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Participate in the park's exotic plant removal program. Complete all resource related reports.
PROTECTION
Lock and secure all maintenance facilities. Secure all tools and equipment. Ensures park rules are enforced pertaining to visitor actions and natural resources. Complete Incident Reports. Report all incidents to a supervisor. Provide emergency assistance when necessary.
Perform related work duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
SKILL IN AND ABILITY TO:
- complete administrative reports and handle correspondence
SKILL IN AND EXPERIENCE IN:
- gardening, landscape, or grounds maintenance
ABILITY TO:
- successfully complete background and fingerprint check
- successfully complete ranger academy
- communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- maintain a valid driver’s license
- deal with people in a positive manner and maintain good public relations
- work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays
- enforce rules, regulations and laws
- perform a variety of trade functions
- read blueprints
- install, maintain and repair electric motors, generators and other mechanical equipment
- make accurate measurements
- use a computer and other basic office equipment
- perform physical labor in hot and humid South Florida climate with minimal supervision
- determine work priorities, assign work and follow-up with inspections
- handle money, make change and perform simple mathematical calculations
- handle minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and maintenance problems
- use safety procedures required in maintenance and repair work
- reside on park property
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Driver’s License
Position of Special Trust Requirement:
This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.
Pay:
$3,176.43 plus $95.33 Competitive Area Differential monthly/$38,117.16 annually
