The following are the duties and responsibilities for the Community Health Nursing Supervisor position in Manatee County:

 

Directs and supervises staff in the Tuberculosis Control, preventative care, and Immunization programs. This position will be responsible for all supervisory duties including, but not limited to, the following: coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating staff performance and the effectiveness of service delivery in the clinic and community setting, updating procedure manuals at least yearly, monitoring program expenditures and operating budgets.  Recruits for vacant positions and hires staff, prepares job descriptions, performance appraisals, trains staff as needed, counsels or disciplines as necessary, approves or disapproves leave and performs other supervisory duties. 

TB PROGRAM: coordinates the collection of program data and compilation of all reports, keeps updated with all TB treatment, immunization, Immigration and Refugee Health guidelines.  Communicates with staff regularly to ensure their involvement in established goals and objectives.  Ensures that staff meets the specific objective program measures.  Plans and evaluates program activities. Participates in clinical and directly observed therapy activities for maintenance of clinical coverage.  Provides case management and direct nursing service in a variety of setting, e.g., home, clinic, schools, day care centers and nursing homes.  Coordinates large contact investigations.  May take confidential information into the field, or generate confidential information while in the field as part of their normal activities of DOT, contact and case investigation and TST administration.  Performs respiratory fit testing as needed. 

  IMMUNIZATION PROGRAM: This incumbent is responsible for utilization/ordering for all vaccine’s programs, including but not limited to vaccines through the State Provided Immunization Programs (Vaccine for Children- VFC and Underinsured/Non-insured programs), Non-State Provided (05) vaccines, and Travel immunization.  This incumbent receives the VFC and 05 vaccines and inputs it into Florida Shots.  Maintains inventory control for vaccines from receipt through the chain of custody; tracks orders, backorders, and incomplete orders.  Maintains vaccine accountability through the Bureau of Immunizations, including other vaccine related programs available at Florida Department of Health in Manatee County, including storage, handling and utilization policies and procedures. 

REFUGEE HEALTH PROGRAM (RHP): The incumbent is a leader in the implementation of The Refugee Health Program reviews; Overseas RHP guidelines are implemented, including but not limited to medical examination records and provides health assessments and immunizations to refugees to enhance personal health status and protect Florida’s public health; Ensures that staff meets the specific objective program measures.  Plans and evaluates program activities

NURSING LEADERSHIP: Assist DON in the implementation of nursing practice at DOH Manatee. Serves on committees and attends meetings related to matters of concern as required.  Attends and participates in staff development such as staff meetings and in-service/continuing education. Participates with other staff in developing solutions to operational problems.  Assists in the coordination of activities with other entities within department and community agencies. Participates in the mentoring of staff and students; Identifies, plans, and develops resources to augment program operations; provides technical assistance and serves as the liaison with community organizations.

OUTREACH PROGRAM LIAISON: Serves as the Clinical Services liaison for all outreach events, including events using the health coach.

SpNS INSTRUCTOR: Provides Body Mechanics training to DOH-Manatee staff to support SpNS activities. Assist /support leadership functions of the Director of Nursing.

 

This individual will be responsible for all supervisory duties including, but not limited to, hiring and selection, developing performance plans, conducting performance appraisals, planning and directing their work, approving leave, and taking disciplinary action as appropriate.

 

* Must be willing to work outside of normal business hours including weekend if the situation requires coverage.

 

Licensure/registration/certification requirements:

  • Valid Florida RN License
  • Valid Florida Driver's License
  • CPR certification
