The incumbent is part of a global public health organization and is expected to support the Florida Department of Health in Manatee County in its mission to protect, promote, and improve the health of all people in Florida through integrated state, county, and community efforts and its vision to be the Healthiest State in the Nation. The incumbent serves in a developmental capacity, providing direct disease and public health awareness intervention activities under the auspices of the TB Control Services Program, including but limited to Partner Services (PS), Epidemiological cases analysis and investigations, notification, counseling and referral services of individuals exposed or at-risk of infection from tuberculosis. Direct guidance and instruction on work methods, procedures, and techniques are provided. All activities are performed observing federal, state, department and CHD Information Security and Confidentiality statutes, rules, regulations, policies, Technical Assistance Guidelines (TAGs) and Internal Operating Procedures (IOPs). Works under the direct supervision of a Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor.
TB CONTROL SERVICES PROGRAM
This position provides support services to patients in the field and in clinic for the Tuberculosis program and other programs as needed. This medical assistant primary responsibilities are allocated to TB Control services to ensure proper patient care and compliance with program standards and objectives.
- Conducts interviews of confirmed TB patients as well as those with a positive TST to identify other close contacts that requires medical intervention/evaluation. Administer Mantoux Skin Test.
- Works with public and private health related agencies and other institutions and individuals to provide health education relative to TB Control methods consistent with TB Control Standards.
- Provides home visits for infectious or potentially infectious TB cases, evaluate contacts and follow up with Class B immigrants.
- Support/administer Direct Observation Therapy (DOT) efforts.
- Conducts field visits to locate individuals who are delinquent, non-compliant, or lost to medical supervision to ensure treatment is completed as prescribed.
- Assures patient compliance by routine home visits to potentially non-compliant individuals for medications, drug ingestion, specimen collection, monitoring therapy and patient counseling.
- Provides Pre/Post test interviewing and counseling for clients with negative or positive HIV/STI/TB tests.
- Participates in clinical, community or impromptu screening activities and or community education and or targeted outreach programs by assisting in the identification, planning, and implementation along with performing venipuncture techniques. These activities will occurred before, during or after normal working hours and or weekends or holidays.
- Completes required records and reports, including case management forms, laboratory request forms, travel reinvestment forms, HMS service codes, Employee Activity Reports (EAR’s) etc.
- In accordance with current CHD and TB program policies and or procedures Provides technical assistance not considered part of routine duties including but not limited to – Epidemiological assistance to other CHD’s or program areas, public health awareness and emergency response situations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT:
- Assist the Clinical Director in retrieving data using Meaning Full Data model to be analyzed, including
- assessing customer surveys, complains and other public related correspondence.
- Participates in preparation of various meetings.
- Assess supplies reorder level, maintain positive balances of items required for the optimal functioning of outreach events.
- Copies and distributes materials as needed to others.
- Professionally greets and assists customers from culturally diverse backgrounds. Ensures services are
- provided that satisfy the needs of the customer.
- Provide emergency coverage as needed.
- Adheres to laws, regulations, policies and procedures for ethical public health practice (e.g. HIPAA, administrative codes, etc.)
- Must maintain quality of services delivered in all tasks associated with position.
LABORATORY BACK UP
- Performs Laboratory testing and patient servicing in a Health Department laboratory either alone or in cooperation with another technician or technologist. Acts as a Medical Assistant in a laboratory setting.
- Performs daily maintenance of equipment.
- Maintains a clean and disinfected environment in lab at all times.
- Prepares specimens for transport to outside labs.
- Records and maintains records and results as required by Florida statutes. Requisitions supplies as needed.
- Results of lab testing performed are recorded timely and accurately in Electronic Medical Record. Performs venipuncture’s, urine or sputum collection and finger sticks for all clinics on all age groups. Responsible for quality control of lab testing and equipment.
- Helps coordinate laboratory flow with clinic nursing supervisor and/or Director of Nursing.
ADDITIONAL JOB-RELATED REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Emergency Duty - Incumbent may be required to work during or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required for the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross Shelters, or to perform other emergency duties including, but limited to responses to or threats involving any disaster, or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
- Trainings/Meetings- Attend all mandatory meeting/trainings as assigned by the position.
- Confidentiality- Ensure all information held in the health records is confidential with access governed by state and federal laws during projects assigned. Will keep confidential information including the client's name, address, medical, social, and financial data and services rendered.

- Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
- Ability to accurately document and maintain client medical charts (manually or electronically)
- Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications:
Preferred: Medical Assistant Certification
Preferred: Phlebotomy Certification
Licensure Requirements:
- Valid Driver’s License
- CPR Certification or willling to obtain within 30 days of hire
Working hours:
- Weekdays-Daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Total hours in workweek 40. May be required to work evening and weekends when specific activities dictate.
