Rotating shifts that includes weekends and holidays. This position does not include insurance or benefits.


POSITION DESCRIPTION:  - The candidate will be required to work independently with minimal supervision providing visitor services, resource management, administration, maintenance and protection of park facilities and guests. 


VISITOR SERVICES - Explains the facilities and services provided for public use, enjoyment and education; meets visitors, answers questions, provides information and directions.  Deals with visitor inquiries in a tactful, efficient and courteous manner; understand and apply rules, directives and policies, laws and regulations.


RESOURCE MANAGEMENT - Works to accomplish annual exotic plant management goals by correctly identifying and removing non-native plants. Performs exotic plant removal under the supervision of the park staff. Participates in preparation and clean up on prescribed burns and wildfires.


ADMINISTRATION - Prepares forms and reports on a wide range of subjects including vehicle usage, wildlife sightings and population counts, and accidents/incidents utilizing programs such as Excel, Word, etc. Answers telephone operates park radio, computer and various office equipment. Collects fees, performs cash register transactions and reconciles receipts. Sells and inventories resale merchandise. 


PROTECTION - Performs routine patrols and security checks; ensures adherence to the Park Protection Plan.  Opens and/or secures park facilities as appropriate.  Interprets and enforces park rules pertaining to all natural and cultural resources and facilities and use thereof for the safety and enjoyment of the visitor.  Responsible for security of cash fund. Performs related work as required.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of annual moderate pack test.  Prior to being hired, applicant will be given a single opportunity to take and successfully complete a supervised moderate pack test at a date and location to be announced. 


Pack test requires applicant to complete a two mile walk while carrying 25 lbs. in less than 30 minutes.



Ability to follow verbal and written instructions; work independently with little supervision; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; prepare reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; perform physical labor utilizing power/electrical/gas tools and equipment; deal with visitor inquiries in a tactful, efficient and courteous manner; understand and apply rules, directives, policies, laws and regulations; work rotating shifts including nights, holidays and weekends; maintain a valid Class E driver’s license.  Skill in utilizing motor vehicles.  Knowledge and ability to perform routine inspections; identify and investigate problems and maintain facilities and equipment. Successfully meet DRP Burn Standards for Prescribed Fire.
