Your Specific Responsibilities:

 

This position is a full-time Advanced Practice Nursing Position at the Florida Department of Health in Flagler County for Women’s Health/Family Planning/Pre-Natal and STD Clinics, with oversight of TB, Refugee Health, and HIV clinics. Employee will also cover Volusia County clinic sites when needed due to scheduling. Must be able to perform independently with the primary responsibility to perform specialized and comprehensive care to clients of Women’s Health/Family Planning.  Family Planning services are provided according to the Federal Title X Guidelines.  In addition, must be able to assess, diagnose and treat STD diseases and related conditions. Work is performed under the supervision of the County Health Department Senior Physician.

Family Planning/Pre-natal Care:

(Working with guidelines established by Family Planning Protocol, the Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner)

Assess family planning patient’s total health needs through physician examination, including medical history, observation, physical examination and procedures necessary to obtain smears and cultures for the detection of infection and abnormalities.

Select, use, and monitor diagnostic tests and procedures such as urinalysis, x-rays, blood work, smears and cultures.

Counsel patients concerning sexually transmitted diseases, prevention, and treatment.

Counsel patients concerning effectiveness, in addition to pros and cons related to all forms of birth control.

Establish, train and maintain under protocol for long term hormonal contraceptive implant (i.e. Implanon) program.

Initiate and manage patients using any form of birth control according to family planning protocols, including emergency contraceptive pills and methods requiring surgical placement. (IUD’s)

Monitor medications and initiate appropriate therapy for certain conditions.

Counsel and work closely with adolescent patients.

Refers abnormal findings beyond scope of expertise to the Senior Physician.

Participates in family planning personnel staff development programs.

Serves as family planning resource person.

Initiate and manage HRT for appropriate candidates.

Performs colposcopy to evaluate abnormal pap smears upon completion of training.

Performs duties of family planning nurse as necessary & perform other procedures under physician direction, per protocol fetus, manual pelvimetry and other entitles described in the maternity protocol.

Select, use, and monitor diagnostic testing as indicated.

Initiate vitamins and ferrous sulfate therapy as indicated.

Perform routine post-partum examinations.

Discuss all abnormal findings with supervising physician.

Screen all patients within programs for Tdap, HPV, and influenza provided immunization and education.

STD

Assess the sexually transmitted disease patient’s (both male and female) health needs through physical examination, including medical history, observation and palpation and procedures necessary to obtain smears and cultures for the detection of Infection and abnormalities.

Select, use and monitor diagnostic tests and procedures.

Counsel patients concerning sexually transmitted diseases, prevention, and treatment.

Counsel patients concerning effectiveness in addition to pros and cons of all forms of birth control, if requested.

Initiate appropriate therapy for STD conditions diagnosed.  Monitor results of therapy.

Discuss abnormal findings with supervising physician as necessary.

 

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

 Ability to perform as an APRN

 

Qualifications:

 

Minimum - 

Licensed as a APRN

 

Preferred - 

Family Planning/sexually transmitted disease expeience.

OB/Pre-natal experience.

At least one year of APRN experience.

Knowledge of Microsoft applications.
