This position, under the supervision of the Senior Registered Nurse Supervisor and Nursing Director, performs the duties as the lead women’s health LPN. Performs duties in the general public health and outreach clinics as assigned. Primary responsibility is lead LPN nursing services in the Women’s Health Clinic. Duties include preparing medical records and client for the provider assessment; client in-take, history collection, reason for appointment, vital signs, HIV testing and counseling, domestic violence screening, arranging referrals and testing, securing documentation in the medical record, ensuring appropriate billing codes and nursing services are completed timely.  Mentors’ new nurses and nursing cross training in program. Performs reviews on medical records to ensure all tests, labs, and reports on the medical record for the visit and all required daily services are met prior to prior to provider service.  Instructs patients on provider orders and documents. Networks with Nursing Director to ensure literature for Women’s Health Clinic is approved and available for clients.  Assists Provider with Case Management of Women Health Programs.  Performs telephone triage and call backs to Women’s Health patients under the direction of the team leader and RN. WHS referrals. Performs lead duties for maintaining lab, lab errors. and reports issues to supervisor.  Makes sure specimens are properly secured for lab pick up daily.

 

Performs and documents vital signs, venipuncture, fingerstick hemoglobin and glucose testing, urine testing using the chemistry strip, urine pregnancy testing, vision and hearing screens as needed.  Performs immunizations and documents vaccinations given in Florida Shots.  Assists provider in the exam room for specimen collection and fetal heart tones, Implant & IUD insertions and removals.  Set up, clean-up and restock examination rooms, sterilize instruments. Prepares literature for specific clinics: Family Planning, Prenatal and Pregnancy Testing and Counseling, STI clinics and other clinics as assigned. Restocks necessary clinic forms in exam rooms and pamphlets as needed.

 

Maintains Medication Room/ Clinic Cart inventory, orders, receives, restocks, and monitors expiration dates under the direction of the lead RN.  Assists with maintaining emergency and disaster kits and Oxygen tanks.  Ensure vaccine efficiency through appropriate vaccine storage and handling of all vaccines.  Monitors Clinic refrigerator temperature notifies supervisor of inappropriate temperature readings immediately.  Assists with mentoring new staff and students. 

 

Acts as back-up employee for supply ordering, receives incoming supplies and annotates incoming orders on receiving sheet and  Lab processing.  Runs & cleans autoclave as needed.  Obtains, prepares, and packages laboratory specimens for shipping. 

Participates in workshops, in services, conferences, meetings and other activities related to public health.

 

Participates in cross training activities to promote continuity of services and opportunities for growth.

 

Participates in daily and scheduled quality assurance reviews of all Women Health clinic records to ensure completion following DOH and Medicaid guidelines. Performs other job-related duties as delegated by the supervisor or team leader. Cross train among all CHD clinic programs. Other duties as assigned. 

 

Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. This may include working in a special needs or Red Cross shelter, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to/or threats involving any disaster, man-made or natural

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Computer Experience. Excellent communication skills

 

Qualifications:

Minimum

Must hold a valid Florida license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or be eligible to and obtain a Florida license as an LPN by the start of employment

CPR Certified

Experience taking vital signs and documenting in medical records

 

Preferred
