Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position under the supervision of the  Senior Registered Nurse Supervisor and Nursing Director as assigned. Primary duties include serving as the Registered Nurse for the Family Planning Provider, Prenatal, Women’s Health RN, STD, PreP, HIV, Hep C, Immunization, Refugee and Tuberculosis clinics as directed.

Duties encompass maximizing access to services and assisting with the Prenatal Breast and Pap follow-up.  Nursing services utilize direction and concepts adhering to the established Florida Nursing Standards per the Flagler County Health Department protocols, FL- DOH internal operating procedures and Technical Assistance guidelines, CDC and Title X guidelines, working to meet the most current DOH goals. Performs the duties of the Family Planning case management, networking with the clerical staff on recalls for client due for annual exams, implant removals and insertions.  The Registered Nurse will provide case management for the sterilization program and the breast and cervical cancer screening program. This position provides services for the Woman’s Health RN clinic services; Immunizations (infant, childhood, adolescent, adult and travel), Family Planning - nurse, Pregnancy Testing and Counseling, Contraceptive initiation or appropriate referral, HIV testing and counseling, Sexually Transmitted Disease screenings and treatments, RN will be networking with DIS and clerical staff on recalls for clients for STI treatment and follow up. Tuberculosis screening and testing, LTBI, Direct Observed Therapy insulin, epilepsy program, and general clinic medication issuance.  This position may also be assigned to the provider clinics for Hepatitis C, HIV, Refugee and Tuberculosis.  Application of nursing principles and techniques in the care and treatment of clients:  client assessment, medication issuance, history collection, counseling clients on the providers’ recommendations, arranging appropriate referrals and testing, appropriate documentation in the electronic health record, service data entry and scheduling return appointments. Assesses and immunize clients as appropriate for specific programs adult, pediatric and travel programs.  Performs and documents vital signs, venipuncture, fingerstick hemoglobin and glucose testing, urine testing using the chemistry strip, urine pregnancy testing, vision and hearing screens. Assists provider in the exam room for specimen collection and   procedures. Set up, clean-up and restock examination rooms.  Obtains, creates electronic orders, prepares, and packages laboratory specimens for shipping.  Monitors clinic refrigerator temperature notifies supervisor of inappropriate temperature readings immediately. Ensure vaccine efficiency through appropriate vaccine storage and handling of all vaccines.  to include refrigerator and freezer temperature readings and submit into FL Shots through Verilert. Vaccine for Children vaccine inventory in FL Shots, ordering and tracking of vaccines. Sets up and takes down clinic, maintains quality assurance checks on clinic equipment.  Manages Vaccine Inventory according to CDC and Florida Department of Health guidelines, Orders, receives, and inventories immunizations for all County Health Department  programs. Participates in Outbreak Disease investigations as assigned. Assists School Health Nurse with outreach immunization programs.  Assists with maintaining emergency and disaster kits and Oxygen tanks. Provides support staff with direction as needed.

Keeps supervisor abreast of daily clinic activities.  Perform daily employee activity record and time sheet reporting.  Participates in trainings, workshops, in services, conferences, meetings and other activities related to public health. Participates in cross training and staff development activities for career development. Participates in quality improvement processes and programs. Performs other job-related duties as delegated by the nursing supervisor. Participates in record review for quality assurance. Assists with outreach clinics for immunizations, HIV testing and counseling and other clinics as assigned.  Designated as On Call Nurse.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position: Preferred or required within first 6 months of hire: CPR, HIV 101, 500/501 Certificate, 501 In Person Session, Passport to Services (On-line withing initial 30 days followed by in person session), TB Case Management Training.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum-

  • One or more years’ experience as a Registered nurse in a health care setting.
  • One or more years’ experience working in a busy clinic setting.
  • Ability to multi-task and work efficiently and accurately under pressure.

 

Preferred –

  • Customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work in web-based programs.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
