Your Specific Responsibilities:
Travels to South Sumter High School, South Sumter Middle School, Wildwood Middle High School and assists primary clinic nurse in performing basic first aid as needed. Makes referrals as appropriate. Provide medications and emergency care as trained. Maintains all daily clinic logs and individual student health records in electronic database. Intakes, tracks, logs, and administered medications to student with various medical conditions as directed by student’s medical provider once trained. Communicates with teachers, staff, parent/guardian, and physicians regarding students with medical conditions. Reviews students’ medical information submitted by parents in Skyward.
Assistant clinic nurse at South Sumter Middle in performing screening tests, including vision, hearing, height, weight, BMI, blood pressure, etc., and records findings in student’s cumulative folder or electronic database. Identify those students who perform unsatisfactorily on health screening for follow and alerts parents/guardians of all abnormal findings.
Keeps clinic clean and neat and all equipment in safe place until needed for screening, i.e., Audiometer, Goodlite vision machine and scales. Prepares Biohazard waste products for pick up. Maintains AED, performs monthly checks and assures AED is in good working order. Keeps track of DOE personnel with active CPR/FA certification and updates as needed. Ensures all supplies are in date and orders needed supplies in a timely fashion.
Participates and administers required ACIP vaccines at annual school vaccine clinics with the school registered nurse supervisor.
Provides clinic cover at South Sumter High School, South Sumter Middle School, Wildwood Middle High School when primary nurse is unable to be in clinic when able and as directed by supervisor.
Reviews immunization records in FLShots and medical files in Skyward for compliance and notifies parent/guardian of delinquent immunizations/documents.\
Provides annual medication administration training to unlicensed school staff when needed at South Sumter High School. Assists primary nurse in providing annual medication training at South Sumter Middle School and Wildwood Middle High School.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of basic medical terminology and techniques.
Ability to speak and communicate with others in a respectful effective manner.
Ability to interview student and parents in order to obtain pertinent medical history.
Ability to maintain organization within school health clinics.
Ability to maintain inventory and order necessary supplies for the school clinic.
Knowledge of basic computer software.
Ability to apply basic first aid as necessary.
Ability to enter clinic visits into electronic Skyward database in a timely manner.
Knowledge of nursing principles and techniques.
Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
Skill in the use of medical equipment and instruments used in providing nursing care.
Ability to administer medications.
Ability to work with students and staff.
Ability to interpret and follow medical instructions.
Ability to observe student’s symptoms and reactions to treatment.

Qualifications:
Minimum -
Must have a Florida LPN license or a multi-state LPN license from another compact state in accordance with Florida Statute 464 .0095
