Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is work providing routine, personal healthcare in a facility under the direction of a licensed health care practitioner.
This is a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position working at the Florida Department of Health in Sumter County. Must be able to work well with others in a team setting and be able to multi-task in a fast-paced clinical setting. Collects and records health information and services performed. Measures and records client's height, weight, temperature and blood pressure.  Tests visual and auditory acuity using eye charts and audiometer.  Prepares and maintains exam rooms and assists provider and registered nurses as needed.
Performs limited laboratory tests, i.e., urinalysis, blood sugar, hemoglobin, pregnancy test. Performs venipuncture and obtains specimens in correct tubes. Packages & prepares lab specimens properly to send to appropriate laboratory for testing. Performs and logs results of Quality Control Test on blood sugar tests, pregnancy tests and urinalysis tests as indicated. Operates routine laboratory equipment.
Orders, conducts and reviews results of diagnostic tests to identify and address patient’s condition properly.  Performs screening and reinforces education for sexually transmitted infections.  Provides medications and immunizations per nursing protocols. Maintains electronic health record and carries out follow up actions as required.  This includes follow up for records pending action.
Orders and always maintains necessary clinical medical supplies keeping clinic stocked with correct supplies.
Washes instruments, packages them as indicated via autoclave.  Maintains and operates autoclave. Assures that items are properly stored after autoclaving and items date sensitive are reprocessed as indicated.  Prepares Biohazard waste products for pickup and other containers appropriate for waste disposal. 
Performs variety of miscellaneous duties as requested.
Must be able to adhere to established Health Department policy and procedures.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
•    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, customer service skills, communicate verbally in a courteous and effective manner
•    Ability to follow specific written and oral instruction
•    Knowledge of basic medical terminology/techniques
•    Ability to perform, record vital signs and document in patient record
•    Ability to interview patients and obtain a complete medical history
•    Ability to prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients and assist provider during exams
•    Ability to collect routine laboratory specimens as directed provider and send to appropriate lab
•    Ability to inventory, maintain, and order supplies for clinic
•    Knowledge of basic computer software


Qualifications:

  • Valid Florida unencumbered LPN license
  • Valid Florida Driver’s license
  • Valid CPR certification

 This is an OPS (Other Personal Services) positions and as such no paid time off is offered. Health benefits will be offered for full-time employment.  OPS employees are eligible to participate in a deferred compensation plan.
