This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Sumter Correctional Institution in the Classification Department
Our mission in the Classification Department is to accurately assess and classify inmates based on their needs, risks, and behaviors. We ensure appropriate housing and program placements within the correctional system. Our goal is to enhance safety and security while promoting effective rehabilitation, ultimately aiding in the successful reintegration of inmates into society.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
Salary: $55,043.30 Annually
SALARY WILL BE DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT PAY POLICY.
JOB DUTIES:
Join our dynamic team and make a real impact! This exciting position involves managing inmates through a collaborative case management approach, ensuring their needs are met with effective communication and resources. Key responsibilities include:
- Manage and evaluate inmates, including those with special statuses, and recommend their custody level and program assignments.
- Prepare and update inmate management plans, supervise their progress, and write progress reports.
- Assist the Classification Supervisor with administrative tasks and help train new staff.
- Maintain inmate information in the department's database and handle inmate requests and inquiries.
- Oversee inmates' work, housing, and educational assignments, and manage the release process for inmates nearing release.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Must possess two (2) years of Classification Officer experience.
- Must possess a Bachelors Degree from an accredited college/university
- Postsecondary education may substitute on a year for year basis for the required experience. OR Postsecondary education may substitute for up to __ years of the required experience.
