Florida State Hospital expects to employ 3 Behavioral Specialist positions in Forensic that directly report to the facility's Chief Psychologist to deliver and document clinical therapy services to individuals in the units. This is different from the facility's Behavioral Specialist F/C positions that are part of a multidisciplinary team with a defined caseload of individuals generally located on one dorm or in one building.  These positions will serve high-need individuals on various dorms and will require the candidate to move about between buildings in the course of a workday or workweek. The candidate will have a Master's Degree in psychology or a closely related clinical field (having had practicum and internship experience providing clinical therapy as part of earning the graduate degree) and will have training in applying one or more evidence-based psychotherapies and/or behavioral techniques (i.e., cognitive behavioral therapy, behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness-based approaches). While some of the incumbent's time may be spent delivering manualized treatments to groups or individuals in a treatment mall or dorm setting, the incumbent will be expected to spend time in the units providing therapeutic strategies in a flexible and creative manner to assist identified individuals to improve symptoms and behaviors that are barriers to discharge or are barriers to effective participation in facility programs (e.g., classes, group-based treatment, and utilizing their freedom of movement safely).  Two attachments to the application are expected and will be given great weight in the selection process: (1) the Curriculum Vita, and (2) a cover letter that describes preparation, interest, and willingness to provide clinical therapy with adult inpatients in a mental health facility as described in this job ad.


Employees at Florida State Hospital must comply with all infection control mandates related to the use of all appropriate PPE's while carrying out job duties on campus. PPE's, to include masks, are provided and instructions on the appropriate use of PPE's is provided.
