Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.

Florida State Hospital (FSH) is a mental health treatment facility owned and operated by the State of Florida and is part of the Department of Children and Families. This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as a Food Service Director II - SES within Food Services. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player who works seamlessly across all sections within the program office. Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

• This position requires lifting, pulling, and squatting.  Duties of this position require the incumbent to be knowledgeable of and utilize the principles of Total Quality Management. This position complies with and monitors compliance (when applicable) of the mandatory requirements in sections 215.422,F.S. and Chapter 3A-20 of the Florida Administrative Code.
• This is managerial work planning and directing the food service operation at a very large mental health institution.
• Supervises the activities of day-to-day operation of the Food Services Department. Reviews the overall standards of performance and provides the necessary supervision to implement these standards.  Points out strong and weak points as an on-going evaluation of performance of subordinates.  Administers counseling and corrective actions when needed and processes proper disciplinary action in accordance with current directives.  Responsible for hiring, reassignments, demotions, promotions and terminations.
• Establishes work-schedules, training programs and consults and advises on any aspect of work performance in the Food Service Department.  Determines manpower and equipment requirements.  Maintains daily minimum staffing by controlling use/abuse of leave and minimizes use of overtime.  Responsible for an annual food budget that is appropriated through Tallahassee.  Monitors and analyses processes to control and maintain cost and reduce cost of controllable expenses.
• Organize plans and supervises all aspects of food planning, purchasing, storage, preparation and serving to ensure optimum quality of food service and customer satisfaction.
• Monitors food preparation and serving to ascertain that quality and sanitation standards are maintained and performs periodic inspections to ensure a safe and secure environment.
• Attends meetings, participates in a positive manner and relays information to subordinates to fully implement a comprehensive outcome-oriented management system.
• Evaluates employees through establishing evaluation criteria’s and responsibilities.  Participates in treatment team meetings on designated wards as scheduled with the nurse.
• Participates in menu planning and implements procedures for quality control and quantity of menu items to maintain cost efficiency.
• Establishes procedures and reviews food and non-food inventories.
• Approves all purchases of food items and non-food items to maintain cost efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 3 years of supervisory experience.
• 2 years of planning and directing the food service industry.
• Work experience of preparing budgets to cover and maintain cost control, approving all purchase of food products.
