Six months of experience in the care of persons with mental health problems


This is work assisting mentally impaired or emotionally disturbed patients, working under direction of nursing and medical staff.
Some positions in this occupation may be responsible for coordinating work and supervising employees.

Supervises employees by assigning work, reviewing progress and assessing performance.

- Monitors patients to ensure patients remain in assigned areas and aids or restrains patients to prevent injuries.

- Assists patients in becoming accustomed to hospital routine.

- Demonstrates and assists patients in bathing, dressing, and grooming.

- Accompanies patients to and from wards for medical and dental treatments, shopping trips, and to religious and recreational events.

- Encourages patients to participate in social, educational, and recreational activities.

- Notes and maintains records of patients' activities, such as vital signs, eating habits, and daily behavior.

- Serves meals and feeds patients needing assistance.

- Administers prescribed medications, measures vital signs, and performs other nursing duties, such as collecting specimens and drawing blood samples.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT: It is the policy of the Agency of Persons with Disabilities that any applicant being considered for employment must successfully complete a State and National criminal history check as a condition of employment before beginning employment, and also be screened in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, F.S., and, if applicable, Chapter 408, F.S.
