This advertisement may be used to fill multiple vacant Mental Health Security Specialist positions.
This position will be located in the Civil Units on Florida State Hospital's Campus. The Mental Health Security Specialist will be responsible for providing safety and security to residents, staff and visitor's for each Unit.
Minimum requirements:
- At least one year experience, interacting with patients within either a residential or outpatient mental health or acute care facility;
- or successful completion of a basic recruit training course or its equivalent (military, law enforcement, corrections);
- or successful completion of college course work with a major course of study in one of the social, behavioral, or rehabilitative sciences can substitute on a year-for-year basis;
- or one year experience within any security related role providing protection of persons and/or property;
- or a minimum of 2 years credible service in any of the Armed Forces of the United States?
Additional Requirements
- A valid driver's license is required.
- This position requires a level II security background check and participation in direct deposit. NOTE: You will be required to provide you Social Security Number (SSN) in order to conduct this background check.
PLEASE NOTE:
State of Florida Certification as a Correctional Officer is not required for this position however; preference will be given to applicants that are currently a certified correctional officer.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain a security presence by conducting walk-throughs of all dorms with the Units. Respond to calls for assistance or for emergencies relating to resident disturbances, medical emergencies, fires and other types of situations. Assist with medical runs as needed. Conduct and assist with searches of property for control of contraband.

- Ability to use deductive reasoning.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to conduct fact finding interviews.
