DESCRIPTION

This is work preparing medications under the direction of a pharmacist. May measure, mix, count out, label, and record amounts and dosages of medications.

 Minimum Qualifications:

A high school diploma or its equivalent, and completion of a vocational, military or community college pharmacy technician program or licensed practical nursing program and one year of experience as a pharmacy technician, or two years of experience in providing nursing or direct patient care service of a medical nature in a county health department, hospital or institution, clinic, convalescent home or other medical setting.

College coursework in pharmacy, nursing or other medical related field can substitute at the rate of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours for the required work experience.

REGISTERED PHARMACY TECHNICIAN WITH THE STATE OF FLORIDA

 

EXAMPLES OF WORK  

 Assists pharmacist to prepare and dispense medication.

 Mixes pharmaceutical preparations, fills bottles with prescribed medication and types labels for bottles.

 Processes records of medication and equipment dispensed to patient, computes charges, and enters data in computer.

 Receives and stores incoming supplies and conduct and assist in inventory management control.

 Prepares intravenous (IV) packs, using sterile technique, under supervision of pharmacist.

 Cleans equipment and sterilizes glassware according to prescribed methods.
