POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The applicant selected to fill this position shall be required to submit to a pre-employment medical examination. This position requires lifting, pulling, and squatting. Duties of this position require the incumbent to be knowledgeable of and utilize the principles of Total Quality Management. The employee in this position spends a minimum of 75% of his/her time performing duties as outlined on official position description, which involves contact with residents in a forensic facility or institution.

This is an entry-level professional nursing position within the nursing field (less than 1 year of medical/psychiatric experience) and possesses an entry level of nursing knowledge, skill and ability with responsibility for nursing care within the unit for residents assigned and serves as a nursing resource to the multi-disciplinary service implantation team. Nursing will provide guidance in the care and treatment of residents. Specific duties and responsibilities are as follows:
a. Administer or supervise administration of medications (all forms), bloodwork, IVs, treatments, specimen collection and related nursing duties. Provide patient education on medication and treatments provided.
b. Participates in hospital infection control program/policies/guidelines with documentation of information on a daily basis and routing to Infection Control Nurse for daily report
c. Participates in assessment and formulation of initial service plan and subsequent plans of care for residents assigned
d. Prepare or supervise nurse in preparing resident for EKG, EKG, consults, x-rays and related procedures.
e. Assesses, implements, documents manual holds, seclusion/restraint processes utilizing required documentation/forms.
f. Assist the medical physician as needed.
i. Provide emergency nursing care and examination of injuries with documentation and follow-up care as needed.
k. Responsible for ordering and maintaining adequate resident/nursing and supplies with inventory and discarding any outdated supplies.
l. Responsive and compliant with current patient’s rights and advocacy issues; adheres to and complies with unit, hospital, and departmental policies and guidelines.
m. Accepts written, oral and phone orders from physicians, psychiatrists, ARNP’s, PA’s or dentists, transcribes orders and initiates or carries out orders.
n. Participates in the formulation of individualized residents' treatment plans.
o. Admits and transfers residents to and from home unit or other hospital facilities with proper forms completed and ensures that appropriate documentation accompanies residents.
Participates in resident evaluations and development of each resident's treatment and discharge plan with the treatment team. Preparation of nursing care assessments/service implementation plans for designated residents.
Monitors, supervises, evaluates unlicensed assistive personnel in performing assigned nursing functions according to DCF OP 155-5 with copies to their supervisor for inclusion on staff's evaluation. Provides training to them when needed to perform assigned function.
Performs other related duties as required to meet the needs of the department or resident's quality of care.
Serves as a resource person to other nurses for training and continuing education activities; works with supervisor in scheduling/ approving attendance to outside training activities for nursing personnel as needed
Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position: Knowledge of the principles and practices of health care or the behavioral sciences. Ability to assist in carrying out treatment and rehabilitation activities centered around personal and social adjustments. Ability to assist in group therapy sessions. Ability to observe changes in person patient’s behavior patterns. Ability to assist persons served with personal care activities. Ability to assimilate data and recommend changes in policies, procedures and techniques. Ability to document effectively. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Physical agility requirements: Must be able to ambulate up and down a stairwell. Must be able to assist with evacuation of persons served during an emergency situation. Must have normal vision and hearing, including use of corrective devices. Must be able to work with or around cleaning chemicals and supplies. Must be able to do repetitive movements with arms, hands, neck and head. Must be able to demonstrate competency, as appropriate, in all areas of training, some of which requires physical activity such as CPR and MANDT. Must be able to bend, twist, turn, kneel, stoop, squat, push, pull, lift and walk extended distances. Must be able to physically operate all equipment necessary to do job tasks. Must be able to lift and carry 20 pounds. Must be able to sit and/or stand for one hour without a break. Must be able to work 16 hour shifts on occasion. Must be able to remain alert while on duty. Must be able to drive an EZ Go or vehicle if job essential.
Licensure/registration/certification requirements (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite): Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute, Chapter 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.27 and less than one year of professional nursing experience.
Working hours: (A) Daily from VARIES (B) Total hours in workweek 40 (C) Explain any variation in work (split shift, rotation, etc.) This position may demand more than 40 hours per week and obligate the incumbent to work beyond the normal work schedule, when required.
