Program Overview

The Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program operates on the campus of Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee and at Sunland in Marianna under the auspices of The State of Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD). The Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program (DDDP) is dedicated to empowering people with developmental disabilities charged with a felony crime to:

1.         Acquire the skills and support that will prepare them for success in their future environments.

2.         Acquire the skills needed to become competent to stand trial.

 

Position Summary

The duties and responsibilities of a Residential Services Director Include:

The incumbent assigned to this position is the single point of contact and responsible for all operational aspects of the individual Community.  Individuals assigned to this position are responsible and accountable for the health, safety, security and well-being of residents and staff assigned to the respective 24/7 facility. Scope of work and major duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

Manages and supervises direct care staff in the care and custody of vulnerable persons who are intellectually challenged.

Coordinates and works in partnership with colleagues, medical, security, behavioral services, and resident and support services managers to ensure that all residents receive quality and timely services which will enable them to live in a safe and secure environment while participating in programs and activities designed to assist them in achieving competency.

Works in partnership with the Social Services and Program Services to ensure that support coordination activities and resident training programs achieve desirable results for the resident population.  Provides feedback and input regarding the service delivery and quality of services provided to the residents.

Works in partnership with the Behavioral Services Department to ensure that behavioral programs are consistently and fairly administered to document and manage resident behaviors. 

Works in partnership with the Chief of Security to ensure that staff, residents, and visitors adhere to all security protocols to minimize contraband introduction and maintain a secure and safe environment for residents and staff.  Make recommendations for changes to security protocols and enhancements as appropriate.

Works in partnership with the medical and nursing staff to ensure that residents receive timely and quality health care services.

Works in partnership with the Budget Manager to ensure that budget resources are maximized to accomplish the mission of the agency and provide for the well-being and needs of the resident population.

Works in partnership with the Human Resources Manager to ensure that staffing, recruitment, selection, employee benefits, classification, compensation, payroll, and employee relations issues are addressed and resolved in a timely and appropriate manner.

Participates as a member of the management team assisting the Assistant Superintendent in providing overall leadership and direction to accomplish the mission and operational goals of the DDDP program.

Performs Administrator on Duty responsibilities which may include phone calls after business hours or returning to the facility as appropriate or assigned by the Superintendent.

Ability to document and ensure documentation is completed as required.

Monitor, in-service, motivate and direct staff in areas of job performance. Complete employee’s performance evaluations and performance expectations within established timeframes as required.

Assist in the hiring process of staff, including but not limited to, participating in the interview process, making recommendation(s) for hire. Recommends corrective and/or disciplinary actions as necessary.

Completes all required training. Monitor and track to ensure assigned staff complete required training.

Maintain timesheet, ensuring accuracy and submit timely in accordance with policy and procedure. Review and approve timesheets as required. Monitor all time and attendance to ensure all coverage levels are met, review and address areas of concern with staff and management as required.

Performs other related duties as required.

 

The Work You Will Do 

DDDP is a forensic facility working with individuals with disabilities in a secure setting.  These individuals have been adjudicated by the courts as incompetent to proceed to trial and have significant behavioral and psychiatric issues.  DDDP provides rehabilitative, vocational, and daily living skills training to the individuals served, which allows for a smooth transition back into a non-secure residential or community setting.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license.

 

 

Other job-related requirements for this position:

•           A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in education, social work, nursing, rehabilitation counseling, physical therapy, occupational therapy, recreation therapy, speech pathology, audiology, health care management, business, or public administration and three years of professional experience in treating persons with developmental disabilities, one of which must have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity; or years of experience to in listed areas to substitute for educational requirement, or

•           A master's degree from an accredited college or university in psychology or any of the areas of major study described above and two years of experience as described above, one of which must have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity.

•           MANDT at the Advanced level is required unless the incumbent requests reasonable accommodation supported by an annual medical certification.  Incumbent is required to submit to pre-employment TB screening and on an annual on-going basis as prescribed by DDDP.

•           Maintain confidentiality of employee and/or resident information.  This specific standard is mission critical as the Agency is entrusted with information about employees and residents which is protected by HIPAA and other federal and state laws.  The Agency’s ability to maintain and protect confidential information has a direct relationship to our ability to gain and sustain the public trust.

•           Based on the duties and essential functions of this position, incumbents will be required to spend a minimum of 75% of work time performing duties which involves direct contact with residents in a secure forensic facility.  This position requires lifting, pulling and squatting.

WORK SCHEDULE 

This position is located at a 24-hour facility.  Staff members must be agreeable to working a shift schedule; regular, evening, or night.

Employees may be required to work additional days/hours based upon the needs of the facility and center.  This includes, but is not limited to ensuring facility coverage, activities, holidays, and emergency situations.
