Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.

Florida State Hospital (FSH) is a mental health treatment facility owned and operated by the State of Florida and is part of the Department of Children and Families. This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as Senior Clerk- F/C OPS within Facility Operations – Mail/Print Shop Services. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player who works seamlessly across all sections within the program office. This role requires the use of independent judgment, a proactive approach to responsibilities, and exceptional attention to detail. Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • This position’s work is primarily pick-up, dispatching, and delivering mail. Sales of postage stamps, postal cards, envelopes, etc. Assists in keeping records/ledgers documenting daily activity of Post Office. Works independently while delivering mail making necessary decisions and providing efficient service. Pucks up (by vehicle) mail from State/Federal Post Office in town. Sorts mail into proper unit/department boxes, organizes mail in delivery sequence for assigned route (by vehicle, mule, walking), and Post Office room box pick-up. Loads vehicle. Delivers mail to hospital staff for residents and staff on a regular schedule by vehicle, mule, and walking.
  • Sells stamps, registers, certifies and insures mail with proper postage. Documents in ledger the daily activity of packages, certified, registered and insured mail. Logs daily mileage of vehicle. Requests preventive maintenance and serving of vehicle. Communicates daily with residents and staff interpreting postal policies and procedures. Inventories assigned money drawer daily for balancing. Keeps abreast of and abides by all Hospital procedures and State/Federal Regulations pertaining to mail.
  • Helps in the Print Shop during slack times in the Post Office.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position:

  • Knowledge of general office procedures and practices.

  • Ability to prepare reports and correspondence.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of secretarial or clerical work experience.
  • College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for each year of the required work experience.
  • Vocational/technical training in the area of secretarial science or office/business studies can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for each year of the required work experience.
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent can substitute for one year of the required work experience.
