JOB DUTIES:

 

This position is responsible for assisting in tree seedling production, packaging, and distribution at Andrews Nursery. Operates medium to large agricultural tractors, mechanical harvesters, front-end loaders, seedling strapping machines, forklifts, tractor-trailers and other nursery equipment.  Operation of above equipment prepares nursery soil for seed sowing, maintains, nursery roads, applies cultural treatments necessary for seedling growth, harvests and packages seedlings, and delivers seedlings to the general public, both at the nursery and at Division delivery points.

 

Performs maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment assigned to operate.  Also assists in the repairs of such equipment which may include AC/DC welding and oxygen/acetylene cutting and brazing.  Maintains vehicle maintenance records for vehicles and assigned equipment.

 

Performs maintenance, cleaning, repairs, and modifications to Andrews Nursery buildings as assigned to provide for the safety and convenience of Division employees and the general public.

 

Performs manual labor incidental to the operation of assigned equipment such as loading and unloading trucks, trailers, pesticide applicators, and fertilizer distributors. Mixes and applies chemical herbicides using hand sprayers, backpack sprayers, ATV tanks, or Truck tanks. Assists in maintaining seed and pesticide inventory records. Assists in maintaining records of nursery cultural practices performed.

 

Assists in advising the general public regarding tree seedling transportation, storage, and planting procedures.

 

Willingly performs other duties as assigned.
