The Work You Will Do:

Assistant Contract Support Specialist  

 

This position will assist the Project Administrator in reviewing assignments in the office with Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) specifications.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Assists the Project Administrator in reviewing highly technical assignments in engineering and verifying field computation books and plan quantity items.Identifies major items of work and verifies accuracy of quantities for all items of work. Ensuring that all pay items have the proper back up and are completed according to the Plans and Standard Specifications.Provide directions to inspectors on format and method of measurement for calculating quantities to be paid on monthly estimates. Follows the Basis of Estimates, Special Provisions and other Final Estimate manuals as appropriate and keeps up to date with Final Estimate procedures.Drives to and from construction project sites in state vehicle.

 

Assist the Project Administrator in developing Work Orders and Supplemental Agreements required to revise contracts for language, time and/or money changes in accordance with the latest version of the Construction Project Administrator Manual.Reviews, summarizes and analyzes time and material records for contractor claims once a Notice of Intent to Claim has been initiated by the contractor for extra compensation on time and/or money.

 

Oversee the coordination and processing of monthly estimates to contractors for the Project Administrator. Initiates and updates project time spreadsheet tracks key project dates, contract time and calendar time for project.

 

Create and maintain Maintenance of Traffic Logs and Erosion Control Logs. Maintains project documentation, including Joint Project Agreement (JPA) daily reports and quantities, receive sample results and track test samples.

 

Maintains and checks field books. Track and maintain shop drawing submittals and approvals. 

 

Coordinates with Office of Information Systems and District Construction in resolving Site Manager problems that occur on the project and keep Project Administrator and inspectors informed of resolutions. Performs other duties as assigned

 

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Concepts, terminology, principles and techniques of drafting, surveying, architecture and/or other engineering related areas.
  • Engineering quantitative techniques.

Ability to:

  • Interpret engineering data.
  • Perform technical engineering tasks. 
  • Apply engineering quantitative techniques. 
  • Solve problems relating to engineering.
  • Plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. 
  • Communicate technical information effectively.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Skills in:

  • Using computer programs such as Word, Excel, and other Department mainframe programs.
  • Using engineering, drafting, architectural or surveying tools, equipment and/or instruments.

 

LICENSURE & OTHER JOB-RELATED REQUIREMENTS:

Licensure/registration/certification requirements (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite):

 

This position requires certification in Final Estimates Level I through the Construction Training Qualification Program (CTQP). Must obtain within six (6) months and maintain thereafter.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications (CS Only): A high school diploma or its equivalent; 2 years’ experience in a related field can substitute for the high school diploma or its equivalency.
