This position will assist with general building and grounds maintenance.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Assist District Carpenter with general building and grounds maintenance, moderately complex carpentry

work, which may include doors, windows, flooring, moving furniture, painting, locks, and any other facets

of building maintenance necessary to safely and properly maintain the buildings and grounds of the

District Headquarters, as well as traveling to the Field Offices across the District.

 

Receive, respond to, and complete general building maintenance work order requests.

 

Perform scheduled walk-through inspections for assigned facilities; inspecting operating equipment,

troubleshoot when needed to identify causes and take corrective action as directed in a safe, effective,

efficient, complete, and timely manner.

 

Assist District Electrician with minor electrical work as directed by supervisors.

 

Assist District HVAC technician with minor HVAC work as directed by supervisors.

 

Assist District Plumber with minor plumbing work as directed by supervisors.

 

Maintain records, logs, correspondence, and other documents related to building maintenance and

repairs as directed.

 

Conduct periodic inventory of tools and supplies. Ensure all tools necessary to do the job are in stock

and in good operating condition. 

 

 

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of building maintenance practices. 

 

Skills:

  • Basic skill using personal computers.
  • Skill in performing carpentry work. 
  • Skill using hand tools.

 

Ability:

  • Ability to perform basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC work.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds. 
  • Ability to climb a ladder.
  • Ability to perform manual labor. 

 

 

Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements:

  • A valid Class E driver’s license is required.

 

 

Other Job-Related Requirements:

  • The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates. 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, building automation systems, plumbing, electrical or mechanical equipment.
  • Vocational/ technical training in mechanical repair in one of the building trades can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for one year of required experience.

 

 

This position requires a valid Class E driver’s license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:

 

  1. three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation;
  2. any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years;
  3. a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and
  4. a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years.

 

     Your driving record will be reviewed and the status of your driver license confirmed.
