Autonomous Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Specialist

Your Specific Responsibilities:
The Autonomous Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Specialist is responsible for working in the Clinical Health Services Division. The incumbent will work under the Medical Services program, as well as various programmatic areas when needed within the scope of Agency protocols, State and Federal Guidelines. The medical competence, medical judgment and general practice of medicine will be evaluated through peer review. Monitoring and oversight will include, but is not limited to, an established quality improvement process with ongoing chart review. The APRN’s immediate supervisor is functionally responsible for evaluation of all standards and expectations and will facilitate access to medical consultations as needed.
Autonomous Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Specialist:
- Provides comprehensive health care to Primary Care, Women’s Health/, Family Planning and STD clients at any DOH-Pinellas clinic sites including Mid County, Clearwater, St. Pete, Pinellas Park and Tarpon Springs as needed using own/personal vehicle
- Evaluates clients and performs physical examinations.
- Analyzes and interprets patient histories, symptoms, physical findings, and/or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses.
- Diagnoses and treat acute health care problems such as illnesses, infections, or injuries.
- Orders, conducts, interprets, and/or evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's condition.
- Orders, reviews and interprets laboratory tests to identify and assess patient's condition.
- Prescribes and administers medications based on patient characteristics, efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized.
- Makes medical diagnosis and prescribes treatment within scope of service.
- Develops treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines.
- Makes appropriate follow ups and referrals.
- Educates patients about self-management of acute and chronic illnesses, tailoring instructions to patients' individual circumstances.
- Provides consultation and technical assistance in evaluating the appropriateness of client care as it relates to primary care.
- Documents all services in EHR timely and accurately.
- Communicate with medical team and other colleagues.
- Meets minimum productivity standard
- Comply with all selected HEDIS measures, standards and selected goals for quality of care.
- Ensures cooperation and coordination between Clinical Services, Disease Control and other divisions regarding Medical Service’s clinical issues.
- Provides excellent customer service.
- Completes case management, including record review and lab review.
- Participate in peer review and provider, team, and other meetings as assigned.
- Rotates as an on-call provider, addressing urgent medical needs of clients during non-business hours. Follows on-call procedures and documents calls in a timely manner.
- Assists with clinical training for new providers

Qualifications:
Minimum
- Clear and active license in the state of Florida to practice as an autonomous ARNP per Chapter 464, Part I of the Florida Statutes, titled the Nurse Practice Act
- Current active Florida Nursing License or a multistate license from another compact state
- Extensive computer skills including the use of an electronic health record (EHR)
- Willingness to travel and cover multiple clinic sites in Pinellas County as needed for coverage
- Willingness to work in an integrated Primary Care, Women’s Health and STD clinic.
- Willing to rotate as an on-call provider, addressing urgent medical needs of clients during non-business hours. Follows on-call procedures and documents calls in a timely manner.
Preferred
- Three or more years of experience in Internal or Family Medicine clinic setting
- At least one year’s experience working as an APRN
