Your Specific Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be a Medical Assistant who works in the Bayside Health Clinic and Mobile Medical Unit in Clearwater.  This position will work in the lab doing phlebotomy and processing specimens for in house testing and transport to outside lab(s). This position will also work in the clinic doing client intake and assisting providers. 

 

Medical Assistant duties and responsibilities imcllude but are not limited to:

 

Clinic

  • Conducts pre-clinical interviews including medical history, allergies, medications, and vital signs.
  • Collects and documents health histories and screening forms.
  • Provides direct services to clients under supervision including immunizations, administration of ordered medications, vital signs and other testing or services.
  • Completes laboratory requisitions.
  • Offers client education and information regarding referrals and follow up.
  • Provides pretest counseling for HIV testing.
  • Ensures a safe and healthy environment by adhering to OSHA guidelines for the prevention of exposure to blood-borne pathogens, utilization of universal precautions.
  • Conducts follow up calls to patients.
  • Assists providers as needed.
  • Prepares clinical area for services, including cleaning, stocking, and organizing exam rooms.
  • Assists providers and clients with Telehealth visits
  • Assists Care Coordinator with pharmacy and hospital follow up calls and records requests. 

Laboratory

  • Performs laboratory testing, including venipuncture, urine collection, finger sticks and other point of care testing.
  • Records results of lab testing timely and accurately.
  • Maintains a clean and disinfected environment at all times.
  • Performs required maintenance of equipment and control testing.
  • Records and maintains laboratory records and results as required by Florida statute.
  • Prepares specimens for transport to outside laboratory.
  • Records and maintains records and results as required.
  • Orders supplies as needed.
  • Ensures efficient laboratory services in collaboration with supervisors and nursing lead.

Other

  • Enters health information and other pertinent data into NextGen, FL SHOTS, and/or other required systems timely and accurately.
  • Maintains vaccine inventory and temperature logs.
  • Maintains medication inventory including stocking medication cabinets.
  • Maintains clinical supply inventory including stocking exam rooms and laboratory.
  • Receives and distributes medications received through MedNet.
  • Completes time sheet, EARS, and mandatory training in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Attends annual in service and team meetings as assigned.
  • Attends training to promote professional growth.
  • Schedules time off in advance and collaborates with supervisor to ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent.
  • Follows & complies with HIPPA guidelines Performs duties as described in the Florida Department of Health's Information Security policies, Protocols and Procedures, ensuring client information is secure 100% of the time.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

Ability to operate a personal computer and accompanying software.

Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.

Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, utilizing approved abbreviations.

Ability to maintain accurate and appropriate medical documentation in EHR system.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Ability to safely administer medications and immunizations.

Ability to perform successful venipuncture.

Ability to perform IM injections.

Ability to work with persons of a different race, language, culture, or socioeconomic status.

Ability to adapt to necessary changes in duties, duty station, or work hours for the benefit of the agency.

Ability to learn and maintain proficiency of computer skills & new programs as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MINIMUM:
    • Current Florida Medical Assistant Certification
    • Current CPR Certification
  • PREFERRED:
    • 3 or more years experience in a medical clinic setting
    • 3 or more years experience performing labratory services, including venipuncture
    • 3 or more years experience using an EHR
    • Experience working with the homeless population
