Senior Licensed Practical Nurse

Senior LPN providing clinical support services for Health Care for the Homeless Program patients at the Bayside Health Clinic and/or Mobile Medical Unit. This position involves regular contact with a diverse population both in person and over the phone and requires working with sensitive and confidential information. This position includes evening hours Monday - Thursday until 8:00 PM and Saturdays 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM.


Your Specific Responsibilities 



  • Assess and evaluate clients in a variety of settings within the scope of Florida State and Federal guidelines, and Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County policies and the Nurse Practice Act. 
  • Utilize nursing skills of interview, observation, and assessment to determine the medical needs of the client.
  • Use the nursing process to plan for ongoing assessment of risk factors and service as prioritized by the client being seen.
  • Provide case management to established or referred clients in need of nursing intervention. Make appropriate referrals.
  • Provide direct services to clients including immunization, administration of ordered medications, tuberculin testing, vital signs and other testing or services which fall within the scope of nursing practice.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy environment by adhering to OSHA guidelines for the prevention of exposure to blood-borne pathogens, utilization of universal precautions. Prepare for and handle emergencies and treat according to standing orders as needed.
  • Counsel clients in basic health principals and risk behaviors, including but not limited to communicable disease control, maternal health, family planning, nutrition, and safety. Emphasis is on prevention.
  • Assists examiners as needed



  • Enters health information and other pertinent data into NextGen system.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all records, client interactions, and services according to HIPAA privacy policies.
  • Documents accurately, using agency forms, designated software programs, and established policies and procedures.
  • Assists examiners and clinic team as needed.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities, including chart review, in service programs, and staff meetings. Complies with core performance standards.
  • Promptly reports unusual clinic activities to supervisor or center manager.
  • Works with the QI department when needed to learn/review new processes as they are being introduced. Help evaluate and identify if any obstacles are present.  
  • Lead trainer for new clinical staff including MAs, LPNs and RNs.  Training includes the flow of rooming patients, documentation in NextGen and FL Shots, Care Plans and Wound Care, when appropriate.



Performs laboratory testing, including venipuncture, urine collection and finger sticks.

Maintains a clean and disinfected environment at all times.

Records and maintains laboratory records and results as required by Florida statute.

Prepares specimens for transport to outside laboratory

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to operate a personal computer and accompanying software.
  • Knowledge of nursing and public health principles, practices & techniques.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, utilizing approved abbreviations
  • Ability to maintain accurate and appropriate medical documentation in EHR system
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to safely administer medications and immunizations within scope of nursing licensure.
  • Ability to work with persons of a different race, language, culture, or socioeconomic status.
  • Ability to adapt to necessary changes in duties, duty station, or work hours for the benefit of the agency.
  • Ability to learn and maintain proficiency of computer skills & new programs required by Clinical Health Services division.
  • Skills in one-on-one interviewing.



Minimum - 

  • Clear and active license in the state of Florida to practice as an LPN
  • Current CPR certification
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends as needed. 

Preferred - 

  • 3 or more years of experience as an LPN in a clinic setting
  • Experience working with the homeless population
  • Experience working with patients suffering from chronic diseases
  • Experience working with an Electronic Health Record
  • Experience performing venipuncture, immunizations, injections, and medication administration
