This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Region III Office of Institutions.

 

The mission of the Correctional Service Consultant is to ensure the safety, security, and operational excellence of regional correctional facilities by upholding compliance with laws, procedures, and ACA standards, fostering staff development, enhancing emergency preparedness, and promoting innovative practices. Through collaboration, accountability, and dedication, we strive to maintain the highest standards of security and service to protect the public and support institutional integrity.

 

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

 

JOB DUTIES:

  • Assists in ensuring compliance with laws, rules, procedures, and ACA standards by conducting site visits, monitoring operations, and providing training and guidance to staff.
  • Supports ACA accreditation by reviewing documentation, participating in audits, and conducting follow-up visits to maintain security standards.
  • Plays a key role in emergency planning and response, including reviewing emergency plans, participating in simulations, and assisting during actual emergencies.
  • Oversees regional programs like drug interdiction and security staff management, including training, scheduling, and reviewing reports to improve operations.
  • Prepares reports, reviews security-related documents, and serves as a liaison with other agencies to address security issues and recommend improvements.

REQUIREMENTS:

Please note, when submitting a college/university degree, if selected for this position official transcripts will be required.

  • Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must possess five years of professional correctional experience, one year must be in a supervisory capacity (Lieutenant or higher). College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours per year for a maximum of two years of the required experience.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
