Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is an OPS Dentist position located at the Wakulla County Health Department.

Clinical - Provides dental treatment to patients primarily in the assigned center with services provided at other sites as scheduled.  This includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Examines patients’ mouth and dentition and charts any pathologic disorders. Reviews the patients’ medical history. Administers local anesthesia. Evaluates processed dental x-rays.
  • Performs teledentistry exams
  • Performs dental exams in the community with the departments dental outreach program 
  • Performs sealants, amalgam, and composite restorations where indicated, using liners, varnish or bases where indicated.
  • Performs dental surgical procedures where indicated, including extraction of diseased or irreparably decayed teeth.
  • Performs dental prophylaxis and periodontal treatment where indicated.
  • Performs topical fluoride treatment.
  • Refers patients to specialists for health care services not performed in the health unit dental clinic.
  • Educates Patients on Oral Hygiene, Treatment, and other programs.
  • Travels to outlying dental clinics.
  • Diagnoses and presents to patients existing dental or oral pathology.
  • Prescribes medications for treatment or prevention of dental infection and relief of dental pain.
  • Treats post-operative complications and emergency treatment when indicated.

Administrative

  • Completes timesheet, EARS, and mandatory training in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Attends training to promote professional growth.
  • Attends and participates in dental health staff meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Schedules time off in advance and collaborates with supervisor to ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent.
  • Conducts seminars relating to preventive dentistry program in the community as requested.
  • Maintains complete records of all dental services.
  • Ensures that equipment and instruments are maintained following infection control guidelines.
  • Inspects operatories and surrounding areas for cleanliness.
  • Assists supervisor in coordination, planning and monitoring of dental operations as assigned.

Education:

  • Trains personnel in dental procedures.
  • Assures that the continuing education requirements of the dental staff are met.
  • Participates in the orientation of new dental employees and students.

 

Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

Minimum - Active Dental License 

Preferred - Experience providing dental services to children. Experience educating and interacting with youth of all ages. Florida Medicaid Provider, credentialed with Liberty, Dentaquest, and MCNA.
