Your Specific Responsibilities:
This position works under direction of the Health Services Manager performing clerical work that support the Wakulla County Dental Outreach Program. Incumbent serves as a back up to front desk by supporting various program functions within the department. This includes but is not limited to front desk duties assisting customers, clerical and computer input, insurance eligibility, billing and payment processing. This position requires a valid Florida Driver’s License for occasional travel required for dental outreach services. This position has a working knowledge of all programs within the Health Department to assist a wide variety of customers with their needs. The incumbent uses knowledge of quality improvement (QI) methods and processes to work with other staff to help identify opportunities for improvement and develop a culture of quality within DOH Wakulla; assists in improvement projects as assigned.
- Performs general clerical duties that support the dental outreach program. Clerical duties include but are not limited to, insurance verification, processing payments, insurance billing, scanning, documenting client information, answering phones, and collecting paperwork. Travel may be required for services provided within Wakulla, Jefferson, Madison and Taylor counties. Ensures completion of school consent forms for prompt payment processing. Notifies guardians on status of dental services performed, including recommendations and providing referral information. Assists dental team with ensuring proper sterilization, disinfection, cleaning and maintenance of instruments, equipment, and operatories as appropriate according to state, federal, and ADA guidelines. Follow OSHA regulations to ensure compliance, maintains Material Data Safety Sheets and follows required safety guidelines. Incumbent may be required to assist at community outreach events on occasional nights and/or weekends to spread awareness of dental services provided and encourage healthy oral care habits.
- Assists as a backup to front desk by providing customer service and performing various clerical duties to assist with daily operating procedures. Responsibilities include but not limited to answering telephone, scheduling appointments, insurance verification, billing services, scanning documents, updating patient demographic and financial information, recording services, posting payments, running daily reports, checking in/exiting clients. Incumbent maintains an accurate cash drawer and collects payments for various program areas. Ensures proper procedure for receiving and processing medical and dental records requests. Processes and mails Environmental Health invoices as assigned. Completes shipping labels as requested. Receive shipments and sign paperwork upon receipt. Inspect contents to ensure they are undamaged. Verify packages according to order and invoices (quantity & quality). Sorts deliveries and allocate them to their designated department.
- Performs other duties as assigned. Serves on a team to participate in disasters and/or emergency situations as required by the Florida Department of Health.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to provide excellent customer service skills; to communicate effectively; to demonstrate a willingness to assist others with problem solving; to balance a cash drawer.
- Knowledge and ability to maintain 100% client confidentiality.
- Knowledge of dental terminology.
- Knowledge of Medicaid billings and diagnosis coding, data entry and insurance verification/eligibility.
- Knowledge of Medicaid and dental billing and reimbursement guidelines.
Qualifications:
Minimum - Valid Florida Driver's License. Willing and able to work occasional nights/weekends for community events. 1-3 years of experience working within a clinical/dental office setting. Experience with insurance verification and billing of services.
Preferred - Knowledge of dental terminology with 1-2 years working within a dental office setting. Professional experience working with young children.
