Position offered as part-time, working 2-3 days per week during the school year.

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position involves performing Dental Hygienist duties and tasks within the Dental Clinic at the Okaloosa County Health Department (OCHD). Work is performed in a clinical setting under the clinical supervision of the Dentist and entails providing direct care to patients. This position provides services in a culturally competent and appropriate manner and promotes oral health and preventive health behaviors to reduce oral health disparities, unexplained different levels of health among children.

 

Provides prophylaxis including the removal of calculus deposits, accretions and stains from exposed teeth surfaces, places and exposes radiographs, and root planning under the general supervision of a dentist as allowed by Florida Administrative Code (FAC) 64B5-16.007. Removes bonding adhesive or cement with a slow-speed rotary instrument, hand instrument or ultrasonic scaler. Provides educations and training to children and their parents/guardians, and in the community. Applies fluoride and sealants to teeth surfaces. Provides oral hygiene instruction and other services which do not involve diagnosis or treatment of dental conditions. May apply silver diamine fluoride as allowed by clinic policy. Sterilizes and disinfects instruments. Cleans and disinfects dental operatories and workroom per the CDC Infection Prevention and Control Guideline and Recommendations, and DOH-Okaloosa policy. Performs routine user maintenance on instruments and equipment. Works in School-Based Preventive Dental Program (S-BPDP) which serves Title I elementary schools in Okaloosa County and includes setting up and disassembling portable dental equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Works in WIC Dental Partnership Program located in DOH-Okaloosa WIC Offices.

 

Records health history, vital signs, services provided and patient notes in the Eaglesoft electronic oral health record. Schedules appointments for patients in the Eaglesoft database. Accurately inputs demographic, financial and third-party insurance information into the HMS and Eaglesoft databases. Inputs referral information into third party insurance web portals. Records treatment and billing information in the electronic oral health record, Eaglesoft and HMS. Maintains unmet need log. Prepares records, graphs, reports as requested. Prepares patient, instrument trays, materials for procedures. Provides postoperative instruction as prescribed by the dentist.

 

Performs all other duties as assigned in support of the Agency’s vision and mission.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to place and expose radiographs
  • Ability to work 8-9.5 hours in a clinic setting providing direct patient care
  • Skilled in operating a variety of dental, computer and office equipment
  • Ability to collect data and perform data entry
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Skill in effective communication in written, oral or electronic formats
  • Knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications

 

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of Dental Hygienist training in accordance with 64B5-16.002, Florida Administrative Code
  • Licensure as Dental Hygienist pursuant to 466.007 Florida Statutes, and 64B5-2, 64B5-9.011, Florida Administrative Code
  • CPR certification
