This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Cross City Correctional Institution in the Education Department.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Plans, runs, and oversees wellness education and recreational programs for inmates, including classroom activities and organized events.
  • Supervises inmates during activities and ensures security coordination with medical and security staff.
  • Assesses inmate participation and interests, using this information to set goals and plan programs that support their social recovery.
  • Maintains and tracks wellness equipment and supplies through regular monthly and quarterly inventories.
  • Writes reports on inmate behavior when needed and organizes special events, including visits from outside groups for cultural and recreational activities.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent
  • One year of professional experience in conducting recreational activities or health/wellness.
    • Correctional experience can substitute for one year of the required work experience.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
