The Work You Will Do: 

Materials Coordinator-Concrete Production / District Four/ Director of Operations/ Materials and Research

This position processes concrete mix designs, producer Quality Control Plans, and Contractor Quality Control Plans. This position also performs concrete plant inspections, performs Independent Assurance Evaluations, and assists customers with concrete-related inquiries.

Annual Salary Range:

$56,375.53 - $72,956.56     

                                                                                                                           

 A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive in the amount of $1,976.00 will be added to the annual salary.

 

Your Specific Responsibilities: 

Inspect materials in the field as requested or required during Construction, Maintenance or Design. Determine material compliance with Department contract and procedural documents. Inspect ongoing activities and documentation of materials related testing and inspection. Provide feedback and technical assistance to field personnel as appropriate. Document and report findings. Perform Independent Assurance evaluations as described in Department procedures and the Federal Aid Policy Guide. Perform these evaluations in an objective and professional manner. Document and report findings. Perform field and/or laboratory testing in accordance with the applicable Florida Sampling and Testing Methods (FSTM), American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) or American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) test methods. Report results precisely in the appropriate database. Keep all testing equipment calibrated and in good working order. Provide review and analysis of proposed mix designs submitted by the producer. Provide assistance to Construction regarding the behavior of the mix in the field. Make adjustments to the mix as needed in accordance with specifications and procedures. Suspend/revoke approval of the mixes as required in accordance with the specifications and procedures.

Inspect component materials for compliance with Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) specifications. Inspect completed material or component for compliance with FDOT specifications. Inspect facility and operation for compliance with their Quality Control (QC) plan and specification requirements. Document and report findings.

Review Quality Control plans, Construction plans, specifications, procedures and any other documents necessary to execute the Department's mission. Coordinate the review of the Materials portion of the Contractor's Quality Control (QC) plan. Provide clear comments as requested in time to be useful to the customer. Offer solutions when objecting to the approach that is proposed.

Inspect laboratories for compliance with Department contract and procedural documents. Review records, procedures, equipment and personnel as necessary to assess compliance with contract and procedural requirements. Provide feedback and technical assistance to laboratory personnel as appropriate. Document and report findings. Perform follow-up inspections as necessary.

Analyze materials data for contract and procedural compliance. Take timely action to correct any errors in the data. Actively facilitate the notification of stakeholders of failures or negative trends. Provide materials related technical support to customers as requested. Provide support in time to meet the customer's needs. Provide guidance and training to customers.

Support consultant contracts in accordance with applicable rules, laws and procedures. Review the consultant work effort. Develop scope of task work order. Review and comment on invoices.

 

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

Knowledge of:

  • The concepts, terminology, principles, and analytical techniques of concrete
  • Engineering design, construction, production and/or operations

Skills in:

  • Using engineering tools, equipment and/or instruments

Ability to:

  • Analyze and interpret engineering data
  • Solve problems relating to engineering
  • Perform engineering inspection
  • Apply engineering quantitative techniques
  • Plan, organize and coordinate work assignments
  • Communicate engineering information effectively
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Lift to 50 lbs. and move around uneven terrain without assistance
  • Operate a personal computer for word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications

Other Job Related Requirements: 

Must possess or obtain and maintain the following qualification areas: Concrete Field Technician Level I, Concrete Batch Plant Operator, CTQP Concrete Laboratory Technician Level 1, and ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician. Must have a valid class "E" Florida driver's license.

Minimum Qualifications: 

High school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience operating a personal computer for word processing and spreadsheet.

This position requires a valid Class (A, B, C, or E) driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department's Driver’s Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:

  1. three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation;
  2. any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years;
  3. a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and
  4. a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years

Your driving record will be reviewed and the status of your driver’s license confirmed.
