Your Specific Responsibilities:

 

The incumbent is part of a global public health organization and is expected to support the Florida Deparunent of Health in Volusia

The position serves as the SENIOR COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSE and works under the general supervision of the ASSISTANT

COMM HEALTH NURSING DIRECTOR. This position will serve as the Lead Nurse for Florida Department of

Health in Volusia Health County located at  Orange City. Clinical Services and provides

professional support( and technical assistance to the staff, community agencies, and the general public. This position requires

experience in a busy clinic setting with a variety of duties in lmmunizations, Family Planning, STD and Laboratory services. This

position will be required to perform duties at multiple sites within the county to include, but not limited to, Florida Department of

Health in Volusia County locations as well as sites established/co-located within the community in conjunction with community

partners. The employee is expected to arrive at assigned location (daily) on time at the provided start time. Mileage will only be

paid in accordance with the State policies for travel to different site locations within the county.

This is a responsible position requiring excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills. Must demonstrate

the knowledge, skill and abilities for nursing protocols identified in this class. Must conform to the standards set forth in the

personnel rules and regulations and the written policies of FDOH and DOH-Volusia. Must be able to communicate, build rapport

and effectively educate teens, young adults and adults on sexually transmitted diseases, family planning, pregnancy and

immunizations including assisting providers in exam rooms, laboratory testing and phlebotomy, treatment and prevention. lt

requires the ability to obtain patient histories, current health assessments, counseling, patient education, referrals to community

resources, scheduling in-house and outpatient procedures, assist providers, ability to perform prescribed treatments, administer

medications, give immunizations, change medical dressings, and draw blood for testing as well as other laboratory work.

Gathers and records pertinent data/information on client records from assessment and interview process. Provides appropriate

client education and counseling related to each health services program. Reviews electronic health record and service coding for

completeness, accuracy and quality assurance purposes. Assists providers with examinations, physicals and other procedures as

necessary.

Responsible for issuing prescribed medications/birth control per DOH-Volusia Nurse lssuance Protocol and/or under the

direction of a provider. Administers injectable medications/birth control/immunizations as indicated. Performs phlebotomy services

and routine laboratory testing, including pregnancy tests,  Hep C and HlV.

Reviews vaccination records and provides direct immunizalion services which includes the education, counseling and

administration of immunizations to children and adults, and travelers per CDC, ACIP, VFC, FDOH and DOH-Volusia guidelines.

Updates vaccination records in FL SHOTS and issues appropriate documentation, i.e. Form 680 and religious exemptions in

accordance with agency guidelines.

Medication Room and lnventory

Maintains orderliness of Medication Room and medication inventory to include: Verifying inventory of medications weekly,

ordering medications from Central Pharmacy or other designated vendors, verifying shipment for accuracy, logging inventory into

Med Room application removing outdated and short-dated medications from shelves and returning them to Central Pharmacy,

accurately removing from inventory, accurately placing barcodes on medications, restocking shelves as needed and maintaining

necessary documents/logs/licenses as required for inspection. Keeps Assistant Community Health Nursing Director informed of

any discrepancies, problems or concerns.

Community-Based Outreach Clinical Services:

Provides clinical services at community-based outreach clinics to include, but not limited to, the provision of family planning,

immunizations and STD screening and treatment: . Gathers and records pertinent data/lnformation on client records from assessment and interview process. Provides

appropriate client education and counseling related to each health services program. Reviews electronic health record and

administration of immunizations to children and adults, and travelers per CDC, ACIP, VFC, FDOH and DOH-Volusia

guidelines. Updates vaccination records in FL SHOTS and issues appropriate documentation, i.e. Form 680 and religious

exemptions in accordance with the agency policy.

 Lead Nurse Duties:

. Manage clinic flow by monitoring the schedule in HMS and nursing staff schedule to maximize efficiency and

productivity. Make recommendation for schedule adjustment when needed.

. Address clinical sile concems, issues and complaints within the clinic.

. Utilize chart review tool to Assist ADON with charts reviews.

Assists in setting up examination rooms, preparing instruments for various procedures, maintaining the care of instruments and

equipment, cleaning and wrapping instruments, cleaning exam rooms at the end of clinic each day, restocking rooms and

maintaining work area.

Assists with the orientation of students, new staff members and cross-training fellow clinical employees. Provides direction and

assistance to Licensed Practical Nurses.

Other duties as assigned.  Attends and participates in staff development, such as team/staff meetings and in-service training/continuing education. . Attends computer skills/training classes as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned. Maintains timely submission of EARS, timesheets, telephone invoices, and travel documentation.  Emergency duty

8. Licensure/registration/certification requirements (lf applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite):

Licensure as a Registered Prolessional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative

Code 210-8.27.
