If so, an exciting opportunity awaits the right candidate to join a dynamic 10-member environmental health team passionately engaged in a variety of cutting-edge environmental health initiatives. You will have the opportunity to work within several regulatory programs, including Onsite Sewage (OSTDS), private well permittin, irrigation system permitting, public swimming pools, among others. The position also offers an incredible learning/mentoring opportunity for those desiring a career in the environmental health sciences.
Reporting to the Drinking Water Program Consultant, environmental health threats are mitigated through conducting inspections and risk assessments. The ideal candidate would be someone passionate about environmental public health causes and a desire to develop their scientific, regulatory, and public relations professional skills. The position is based in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Most of your daily time will be spent out in the community interacting with the public and inspecting facilities. Each day will also involve some office time for report writing, answering calls and processing inspection-related documents.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of Software programs used by FDOH for environmental health inspections, data collection and analysis
Knowledge of Chapter 381 Florida Statutes, associated regulations and Policy 150-4 procedures.
Environmental health laws, rules and procedures associated with well /water system and/or OSTDS inspections
Practices used in EH inspections and how they are used to educate the public, enforce rules and gain compliance.
Qualifications:
Minimum -
Must have knowledge of Software programs used by FDOH for environmental health inspections, data collection and analysis
Must have knowledge of Chapter 381 Florida Statutes, associated regulations and Policy 150-4 procedures.
Must have knowledge of environmental health laws, rules and procedures associated with well /water system and/or OSTDS inspections
Must have a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the physical or natural sciences or public health
Mus have a valid driver’s license
Must be able to lift 50 pounds, stretch and bend
Must be able to work in extreme heat, humidity and other inclement weather elements
Must be willing to drive your personal vehicle to conduct field inspections
Preferred -
Skills to operate common EH field testing equipment and ancillary inspection equipment.
Ability to use DOH and DEP computer programs for program administration, workflow monitoring, data collection.
Skill to use EH laws, rules and procedures to conduct an accurate and objective inspection.
