JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position is located at the Division of Blind Services Career, Technology, and Training Center for the Blind & Visually Impaired. This position performs work involving a variety of food preparation duties other than cooking, such as preparing cold foods and shellfish, slicing meat, and brewing coffee or tea.  This position works in food service at the Career, Technology, and Training Center for the Blind & Visually Impaired and supports the clients and customers of the Center with meals, food support, preparation, etc. 

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

(Note: The omission of specific job duties does not preclude management from assigning specific duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position.)

The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) has an open position that is responsible for executing the following functions:

  • Prepare and cook three meals a day plus an 8:00pm snack including meats, vegetables, soups, gravies, salads, bread, etc.
  • Make sandwiches, puddings, and cakes.
  • Slice meat.
  • Implement dietary programs to ensure all students receive meals that conform to dietary standards.
  • Prepare diet plates as prescribed by consulting physician.
  • Maintain work area in a clean and sanitary manner.
  • Clean and sanitize all areas of the kitchen and dining room.
  • Food is served cafeteria style from a steam table, poring beverages, carrying trays for students that are ill or unable to carry their own.
  • Determine portions to be cooked being especially aware of portions for special diet needs.
  • Store leftovers in the prescribed manner.
  • Stock meats, vegetables, and frozen foods in cooler and maintain good order.
  • Under supervision, counting items and recording them for inventory purposes.
  • Keep accurate records of food used on each shift.
  • Wrap flatware and store in proper container.
  • Set up beverage tables.
  • Replenish supply of cups, glasses, straws, napkins, and condiments.
  • Perform related work as required.
  • Train and instruct other support workers as requested.
  • Substitute for other staff in their absence.
  • Attend scheduled training.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of equipment, procedures and techniques of cooking, baking or meat cutting.
  • Knowledge of sanitary practices/maintaining conditions.
  • Ability to read and follow recipes and instructions.
  • Ability to plan and organize work conditions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One (1) year of food service experience.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent. 
  • A Serv-Safe Certification.  
  • Completion of a program of study from a vocational/technical school in a food service area.
