MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Willingness and ability to work weekends and holidays as scheduled
  • Successful completion of all pre-employment screening.
  • Must participate in Direct Deposit.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One (1) year of verifiable institutional cooking experience
  • Basic computer skills 

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

  • Incumbent will work under the supervision of the Food Service Director and the Food Production and Services Supervisor in the day to day food service operation at the State Veterans' Nursing Home. The Food Support Worker may act as the Food Production and Services Supervisor when that staff member is absent from the facility. Ensure that food is stored, prepared, distributed and served under sanitary condition.
  • The Food Service Worker (FSW) will ensure compliance with state and facility safety procedures in the operation of food production and cleaning of equipment.
  • The FSW will ensure that clean and sanitary conditions are maintained in all areas of the kitchen food preparation and serving lines; turn on and set temperature on grills, stoves, deep fryer, and broiler.
  • The FSW will be required to operate and maintain equipment used according to FDVA procedures.
  • The FSW will be responsible for estimate food requirements, for the preparation and cooking of all types of hot and cold food items according to menu and approved recipes. Cut and de-bone ham, poultry, and fish. Slice meats according to menu needs. Utilize leftover meat items.
  • The FSW will place food items on serving lines and keep serving line well stocked.
  • The FSW will maintain, check, and control kitchen inventory to determine quantities available as well as amounts needed for operation. Assist with purchase requests for food, cleaning supplies, utensils, pots and pans, dishes and paper products in the kitchen. Verify incoming shipments and receipts in the absence of stock person.
  • Attends in-service training classes and performs related duties assigned by supervisor.

Performs other related duties as required including special catering events and meal charges.
