Your Specific Responsibilities:

 

The incumbent is part of a global public health organization and is expected to support the Florida Department of Health in Volusia County in its mission to protect, promote and improve the health of all people in Florida through integrated state, county and community efforts and its vision To be the Healthiest State in the Nation.  Furthermore, the incumbent is expected to incorporate the agency values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Responsiveness and Excellence in all aspects of their work.

  

The Health Educator will support FDOH programs and providers through an integrated and strategic approach to community outreach and  projects directed toward the goals of prevention, assessment, risk reduction and health status improvement for individuals, families and the community and will utilizes appropriate methods for interacting effectively and professionally with persons of all ages and from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, and racial, and ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, lifestyle and physical abilities.

 

Works with a multi-divisional team, community partners and residents in identifying needs, providing education, referral and in collaboration with all entities develop initiatives for implementation to improve program services. Advocating on behalf of vulnerable individuals and populations; ensuring that people are informed of available health department and community programs and services and are assisted in the utilization of those services. Performs comprehensive individual and family assessments of basic needs including food, housing, income, resources and supports, and access to health care and provide linkage to these services.

 

Provides support for the  Injury Prevention programs and Safe Kids Florida – Volusia/Flagler Local Coalition.  Assists with implementation of associated outreach events and initiatives, submitting reports and meeting grant deliverables. Assists with stakeholder sponsorship and marketing opportunities.  Assists with scheduling and coordinating outreach events, complies with grant deliverables, and provides timely reports upon request.  Conducts and/or oversees presentations on Safe Kids and injury prevention programs and provides data to a wide range of audiences.

 

Responsible for updating the outreach calendar to include all internal and external requests for participation in events and for purchaseing for Community Health programs.

 

Submit time sheet and EAR entry within the required time frame.

 

Complete  all mandatory or assigned trainings within the required time frame.

 

Subject to emergency duty in the event of a natural disaster

 

This position will require working some nights and weekends.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Ability to plan, organize and complete assigned work and prioritize work duties as needed

 

Qualifications:

 

Minimum -

Must have ability to plan, organize and complete assigned work and prioritize work duties as needed

Must have a valid, unrestricted Driver's License

Musr be willing to work some nights and weekends to attend outreachs and events

 

Preferred -

Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Windows-based business software applications including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
