Your Specific Responsibilities:

 

Title: Public Health Nutritionist

Location: Orange City

 

The incumbent is part of a global public health organization and is expected to support the Florida Department of Health in Volusia County in its mission to protect, promote and improve the health of all people in Florida through integrated state, county and community efforts and its vision To be the Healthiest State in the Nation.  Furthermore, the incumbent is expected to incorporate the agency values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Responsiveness and Excellence in all aspects of their work.

 

Duties:

Evaluates the clinical and anthropometric data and dietary histories of women, infants and children under the eligible guidelines for participation in the WIC Program. 
Completes all forms, enters data on appropriate computer screens, and documents certification information in the client electronic medical record.
Provides individual nutritional counseling and may teach group nutrition classes to pregnant women, breastfeeding women, women up to six-month post-partum and caretakers of infants and children participating in the WIC program.
Documents counseling and prepares nutrition care plans for WIC participants meeting the state high-risk criteria. 
Enters client nutrition education and breastfeeding contact codes into the WIC system on a daily basis. 
Promotes breastfeeding to WIC clients.
Participates in the Quality Assurance Program for the WIC department.  Occasionally rotates with other staff members to conduct peer reviews and will participate in any multi-disciplinary QA team responsibilities that are needed in the Health Department. 
Assists in selection and evaluation of audio-visuals and printed nutrition materials for use with WIC clients.  Attends staff meetings, WIC conferences, and special nutrition workshops and seminars as needed. 
Ensures that surveys are provided and completed by clients.
Participates in outreach activities which will enhance the community's knowledge of the WIC program by attending health fairs and\or providing presentations on appropriate nutrition and breastfeeding education.  These activities will be on current science-based information for clients who may be eligible for the program and will represent the Florida Department of Health in Volusia County in a professional manner. 
Will make every effort to independently and professionally address and resolve all customer service issues and take appropriate actions.  Will keep supervisor informed of the situation and outcome by the end of the workday.
May occassionally travel to other clinic sites in Volusia County when necessary.

 

Other Duties: Performs other related duties as required.

This position may serve clients that speak only Spanish, Creole, or other languages. It may require performance of interpreter duties, if bilingual, or implementation of the Department’s limited English Proficiency Plan. Performs other duties as required, including performance of additional interpreter duties, consistent with skill level, and as needed.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Knowledge of basic medical terminology,

Ability to interview patients and obtain a complete medical history

Ability to determine work priorities

Ability to work independently

Knowledge of basic computer software

 

Qualifications:

Must be a Licensed Dietitian in the state of Florida or are you able to obtain your LD/N license

WIC Experience preferred
