Job Description:
This position will work as an OPS Residential Instructor at the Career, Technology and Training Center (CTTC) located in Daytona Beach, Florida. The incumbent will assist staff in the Residence Hall. The Residential Instructor provides practice skills in the areas of instructional guidance for daily living skills, assistance to master tasks and maintains safety for students attending training at the CTTC. All Residential Instructor positions are necessary to ensure that students have the best opportunity to successfully complete their training. All existing team members are required to fulfill these needs for the students served by the CTTC, some of whom have additional disabilities unrelated to vision impairments that require additional time and attention to practice skills obtained at the center.
Examples of Work:
- Provides assistance to blind and sight impaired clients who may also have physical disabilities or challenges.
- Provides information on guidelines and policies of the campus and dormitory as determined by the CTTC administration.
- Provides information to students on emergency procedures.
- Meets new clients at the time of admission.
- Introduce clients to other clients and staff to assist in adjusting to their environment.
- Assists clients and Nurse in attending to medical needs and appointments.
- Reviews room assignments for new clients and maintain awareness’ of client’s needs.
- Provides assistance or direction during Residential community activities both on and off campus as needed.
- Supports coordination of recreational and residential community events.
- Maintains awareness of individuals in the building and assist with custodial issues as necessary.
- Reports number of clients to Food Support Workers for meal preparation, snacks, and special diets.
- Meets daily with fellow staff members to give shift-report and review client status-progress in Case Data Management system.
- Completes daily reports on a shift-to-shift basis, ready for review by the Residential Supervisor.
- Document’s safety issues related to client skills and unacceptable behavior as well as any medical problem or injury.
- Write incident/observation report when incidents arise.
- Record and deliver all telephone messages for clients and staff accordingly.
Other Miscellaneous Duties:
- Attend in-service trainings.
- Complete assigned training courses offered by the Division of Blind Services and the Department of Education as needed.
- Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or its equivalent; or
- Completion of a program of study in childcare from a vocational/technicial school; or
- One year of experience working with persons with disabilities.
