MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Per CFR 483.24(c)(2), the activities program must be directed by a qualified professional who is:
- Certified Activity Director or licensed or registered in Florida as a therapeutic recreation specialist or as an activities professional by a recognized accrediting body OR is eligible for licensure as a therapeutic recreation specialist or as an activities professional.
- Possesses two (2) years’ experience in a social or recreational program within the last five (5) years, one (1) of which was full-time in a therapeutic activities program; or is a qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant.
- Valid Florida driver’s license.
- Successful completion of the employment screening process to include, but not limited to, a national background investigation and drug test.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- At least five (5) years of long-term care experience.
- AHCA, VA, or JCAHO Survey experience.
- Familiarity with volunteer programs.
- Familiarity with resident care plans and MDS.
- Experience working with large numbers of volunteers and volunteer groups.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Activities Director is responsible for the overall compliance of the Department to include development, implementation, supervision and ongoing evaluation of the activities program.
- Incumbent works on an independent basis and is responsible to plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate and direct a therapeutic program of recreation and activities to meet the individual needs of the residents. These programs are designed to give residents entertainment, intercommunication, exercise, and relaxation as well as the opportunity to express creative talent.
- The incumbent ensures that residents in the Veterans’ Nursing Home receive fulfillment of their basic psychological, social, and spiritual needs in accordance with current federal, state and local standards. This position reports directly to the Nursing Home Administrator.
- Serve as representative of the Activity Department on the interdisciplinary team with the responsibility of insuring the resident treatment objectives are consistent with overall treatment process, care plans, MDS assessments and progress notes.
- Accurate progress notes are to be entered in the computer in a timely manner for each resident.
- Evaluate recreation therapy programs and make necessary revisions as needed.
- Administer evaluation assessment, through interview, to determine individual therapeutic program needs and interests.
- Use such finding to develop, organize, plan and implement innovative therapeutic recreation programs to meet the physical, emotional and psychosocial needs of each individual resident at the Veterans’ State Home.
- Lead activity programs as scheduled.
- Supervises and direct assigned CNA/Therapy Aides and Therapy Aides in the recreational activities at the state home.
- Prepare performance standards and reviews, schedules, and approve leave and attendance.
- Supervises and direct all volunteers.
- Approve monthly activity calendar of events.
- Serve as coordinator for all donations to the state home, ensuring that thank you letters are sent and in a timely manner.
- Maintain daily and monthly records of resident attendance and participation in recreation activities.
- Maintain needed information for reports.
- Do purchase orders as required using required purchasing procedures. (i.e. ordering equipment and entertainment, etc.)
- Serve on committees at the state home.
- Perform other related duties as required to include special events at the Home and outside of the Home (i.e. American Legion, VFW, etc.)
