WORKING TITLE: SENIOR CHAPLAIN
This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Walton Correctional Institution in the Chaplaincy department.
The mission for a Senior Chaplain in the Chaplaincy Department is to provide comprehensive spiritual care and support to the inmate population. This includes planning and supervising religious programs, offering pastoral care during times of crisis, ensuring the observance of religious practices, and fostering a supportive environment through collaboration with staff and volunteers. The Senior Chaplain aims to address the spiritual, personal, and interpersonal needs of inmates, promoting their overall well-being and aiding in their rehabilitation and adjustment within the correctional facility.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:
- Lead Comprehensive Chaplaincy Services: Plan, develop, and supervise worship opportunities, religious education programs, and special events to meet the spiritual needs of inmates.
- Provide Pastoral Care: Offer personal interviews and support in various areas, addressing inmates' personal, interpersonal, and spiritual needs during crises and adjustments.
- Manage Administrative Tasks: Handle daily inmate callouts, volunteer coordination, marriage requests, grievances, and essential reporting to ensure smooth operations.
- Recruit and Train Volunteers: Supervise and maintain an accurate file for citizen volunteers, enhancing the Chapel program's effectiveness.
- Ensure Compliance and Communication: Keep key staff informed of ongoing and upcoming programs, manage the Chaplaincy budget, and ensure adherence to standards and security policies.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Must possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in theology, religion, education one of the social or behavioral sciences or 2 years of professional experience as a clergyperson.
- Must possess an ordination or formal investment with ministerial or priestly authority by an ecclesiastical body.
- Must possess a current written approbation and endorsement from the appropriate official of the ecclesiastical body

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
