POSITION DESCRIPTION: Installs, maintains, alters and repairs wiring, power appliances, light machinery and electrical circuits on equipment, buildings, lighting, and electrical safety devices throughout District Five's nine county area of responsibility.  Locates and corrects power failures and short circuits.  Installs low voltage wiring for network and phone systems.  Certifies and terminates low voltage cabling with the appropriate equipment. Assists in some masonry, painting, roof, sheet metal work, and general plumbing repairs.  Assists in evaluating department requests for cubicle additions and modifications.  Implement electrical/cabling alternatives when appropriate.  Communicates with other sections when joint participation is required.  Reads blueprints and/or schematic drawings.  Selects materials, supplies, and equipment necessary for required work.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF ALL TYPES OF ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS, ALTERATIONS AND REPAIRS; SKILL TO PERFORM ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS, ALTERATIONS AND REPAIRS ACCORDING TO NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODES; ABILITY TO READ AND UNDERSTAND BLUEPRINTS AND SCHEMATIC DRAWINGS; SKILLED IN THE PROPER AND SAFE USE OF BOTH HAND AND POWER TOOLS; ABILITY TO ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN EFFECTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS; ABILITY TO WORK INDEPENDENTLY.

 

OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Level II Background Check in accordance with the Statewide Law Enforcement Radio System (SLERS) and Section 282.709, Florida Statutes. Due to the nature of this position, incumbent must respond to emergencies and be "on call" (24-hour duty) when necessary.  While in on-duty status, the incumbent must be readily available.  Incumbent is required to work with/around Department of Corrections Inmates.  

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency and one year experience as an electrician or graduate from an accredited program.  An additional year of experience as an electrician is a substitute for a High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency.
