The Work You Will Do:
Materials Coordinator-Lab - District Five/District Materials and Research.
This position will evaluate project/process to determine current performance status. Perform laboratory testing in accordance with the applicable Florida Sampling and Testing Methods (FSTM), American Association of State Highway and transportation Officials (AASHTO) or American Society for testing and Materials (ASTM) test method.

Your Specific Responsibilities:
Evaluate project/process to determine current performance status. Make/recommend improvements to the optimize delivery or improve results. Notify stakeholders of any changes to the project/process. Ensure project/process is consistent, predictable, and repeatable.
Perform laboratory testing in accordance with a applicable Florida Sampling and Testing Methods (FSTM), American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) or American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) test method. Report results precisely in the appropriate database. Keep all testing equipment calibrated and in good working order. Obrain and maintain all qualifications necessary to perform the test in compliance with Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) procedures.
Perform analysis of materials data for contract and procedural compliance. Take timely action to correct any errors in the data. Actively facilitate the notification of stakeholders of errors, failures, or negative trends.
Provide materials and related technical support to customers as requested. Provide support in time to meet the customer’s needs.
Review Quality Control plans, Construction plans, specifications, procedures, and any other documents necessary to execute the Department’s mission. Provide clear comments as requested in time to be useful to the customer.
The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- The concepts, terminology, principles and analytical techniques and Materials-Laboratory.
- Engineering design, construction, production and/or operations.
Skills in:
- Using engineering tools, equipment and/or instruments.
Ability to:
- Operate a personal computer for word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
- Analyze and interpret engineering data.
- Solve problems relating to engineering.
- Apply engineering quantitative techniques.
- Plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
- Communicate engineering information effectively.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Lift 50 pounds and move around uneven terrain without assistance.
Other Job-Related Requirements:
- Must possess or obtain and maintain at least one of the following qualification areas: Asphalt Plant Level I; Aggregate Testing Technician; ACI Concrete Lab Technician Level I; or Aggregate base Testing Technician; Limerock Bearing Ratio (LBR) Technician. Must pass or have passed Construction Math and Contract Plans Reading Self Study examinations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience using engineering or manufacturing tools, equipment and/or instruments; and Prior experience operating a personal computer for word processing, spreadsheet, and/or database application; and Prior experience with evaluating construction materials.
