This advertisement is for a Career Service position located at South Florida Reception Center in the Education Department. This position is for an Adult Basic Education/GED® Instructor responsible for delivery of instruction in Math/Science, Reading-Language Arts and Social Studies through a blended instructional model.
Salary Rate: $51,500.02 annually
- Applicants in possession of a master’s degree (official transcripts) may be eligible for an additional $1,499.94 annually.
- Possession of a temporary or professional teaching certificate may be eligible for a one-time $1,000 hiring bonus.
SALARY WILL BE APPLIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH PAY POLICY. THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE APPOINTED AT THE ABOVE LISTED APPOINTMENT RATE.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent in this position is responsible for teaching assigned academic subjects to students at a correctional institution/facility. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Conducts classes in the assigned subject(s) at multiple correctional institutions on a substitute basis. Utilizes various teaching techniques and activities to assist students with their educational advancement. Responsible for the supervision of inmates assigned to the class. Conducts roll calls, counts, and maintains attendance records. Ensures that order and discipline are maintained in the classroom.
- Provides professional development to new and veteran teachers at the regional and institutional levels.
- Works with education supervisors and the department’s Professional Development Specialist to deliver the department’s New Teacher Training program.
- Serves as a mentor to new teachers, providing guidance, advice, feedback, and support.
- Assists in budget preparation and processing purchase requests for the education program at a regional level.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Must posses a valid driver’s license.
- Must be willing to travel to complete job duties.
- A minimum of five years teaching experience.
- A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university; and
- Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate.
- SPECIAL NOTE: Non-certified applicants must obtain a temporary State of Florida Educator’s Certificate within 12 months of hire. State of Florida Educator’s Professional Certificate must be obtained prior to the expiration of Temporary Certificate.
