Position Overview and Responsibilities:
An exciting opportunity is available for a strong leader with a diverse Florida Park Service background to fill the position of Park Manager II at Ravine Gardens State Park, Dunns Creek State Park and the Palatka to St. Augustine State Trail.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of natural resource management practices to include prescribed fire, appropriate methods for control of invasive plants and animals, Florida Park Service Operations Manual, routine, preventive and corrective maintenance necessary to meet FPS standards.
VISITOR SERVICES - Explains facilities and services provided for public use, enjoyment and education; meets visitors, answers questions, provides information and directions. Attempts to resolve visitor complaints while maintaining good public relations. Coordinates interpretive programs, activities, and schedules. Supervises the staff in providing visitor services.
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT – Participates in and supervises the resource management program. Implements ecological burning plan for fire type plant communities; recognizes communities, utilizes control burning techniques and maintains fire lanes. Implements vegetation and wildlife management plans; recognizes communities and maintains optimum species control via natural and chemical means. Implements site restoration projects such as reforestation and erosion control. Implements water resources management plans.
MAINTENANCE - Identifies maintenance needs through daily inspections. Maintains maintenance schedules and supervises the staff to ensure maintenance on a daily, weekly and yearly basis is regularly performed. Supervises and assists with the maintenance of grounds, facilities and equipment. Constructs, maintains, and repairs small buildings, fences, trails, service roads, fire lanes, picnic sites, and all other necessary facilities. Maintains cleanliness of grounds and facilities.
ADMINISTRATION – Participates in employee training, supervision and discipline. Supervises the staff in fiscal, purchasing, and property procedures and policies. maintains good employee relations. Coordinates work schedules and assignments. Checks reports, fee collection, and miscellaneous records prepared by the staff.
PROTECTION - Ensures park rules are enforced pertaining to all facilities and resources, and use thereof, for the enjoyment of the visitor. Prepares and implements the Park Protection Plan in accordance with Operations Policy Manual.
OTHER – Performs other related duties as required.

Position of Special Trust Requirement:
This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.

Ravine Gardens State Park offers picnicking, walking on trails or around the park’s 1.8 mile paved park drive which offers scenic views of the ravine. This park is one of the nine New Deal era state parks in Florida. There are two ravines up to 120 feet deep with steep bans at 45 degree angles.
Dunns Creek State Parkis located south of a sharp bend in the St. John’s River. The park’s natural communities include sandhills, covered with longleaf pines, wiregrass and sand pine scrub. Picinic areas are available and there are 1.5 miles of hiking and bicycling trails.
