This position required to travel approximately 85% of the time.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency This may include working in a special needs or Red Cross shelter, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural
  • Have a current valid driver’s license or State ID. If out of state a Florida driver's license or State ID will be required within 30 days of hire.
  • High School or GED

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or comparable certification
  • Experience working with children in a school setting
  • Experience conducting hearing and vision screenings
  • Experience working in a School-Based Immunization and reviewing health records
  • Experience working with client medical or health records in a healthcare setting
  • Experience conducting health screenings to include interviewing clients, measuring vital signs, weight and height, and recording information
  • Experience updating and recording results in a medical or health records chart i.e. screenings, immunizations etc.
  • Experience working with Skyward or the School Health Information Program (SHIP), or similar (other) electronic medical/data systems
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid
  • Bingual (Spanish and English)

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

This Career Service position provides health services in the Florida Department of Health in Lake County - School Health (SH) Program and includes working in outlying School-Based Immunization and Health Screening Clinics under the supervision of the Nursing Program Specialist to appraise, protect, and promote the health status of the Lake County School students.  The incumbent will serve as the Private/Charter School coordinator.  This position work hours will coincide with the Lake County School Board student calendar and will be scheduled to work the DOH-Lake clinics during the major periods when school is scheduled to be closed i.e. Winter Break, Spring Break and five weeks during the summer months.

 

Assists in outlying School Health’s immunization and health screening (hearing, vision, scoliosis height, and weight) clinics in the school setting.  Pulls and prepares health records prior to immunization clinics.  Delivers equipment (that might weigh 30 lbs.) and supplies to outlying assigned schools and sets up area for clinics.  Explains test procedures.  Performs health screenings, records screening results and document health screening & follow up results in the student’s health folder at the appropriate time.  Assist in keeping immunization records and maintaining inventory of medical supplies necessary for outlying school based immunization clinics.  Assist nurse or medical provider in other screenings or procedures as required.

 

Makes scheduled visits to outlying schools.  Responsible for reviewing, certifying and updating student’s health records upon initial enrollment and subsequent reviews (i.e., immunization record, physical forms, and other medical data or documents).  Responsible for updating, certifying, and referring students for necessary follow-up for compliance with Florida Law.

 

Performs clerical work/data input pertinent to screenings, follow-up referrals and for immunization clinics inputting into Florida Shots and HMS.  Assist with SH and Immunization educational presentations, outreach health fairs and immunizations clinic, and/or school activities.  Performs other related duties as assigned, which may include assisting in the Health Department clinics, or other activities, where a Health Support Technician is required.

 

Performs the backup roll to type all meeting agendas and minutes, correspondence, reports, manuals, and other materials as required by supervisor for the School Health Program.  Responsible for Policy and procedure manual updates. Compiles, copies, sorts, and files records of office activities, business transactions, and other activities.  Maintains files and records of all correspondences, reports, logs and other materials for the School Health program. Enters data provided by School Health team into Skyward, SHIP, FL Shots, HMS or other similar medical/data systems.

 

Performs the backup roll to orders materials, supplies, and equipment maintenance, and keeps logs as needed. Stuffs envelopes and addresses, stamps, sorts, and distributes mail, packages, and other materialsAlso, Back up person for the Skyward, SHIP Program or similar programs

 

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:

  • Attends required staffing & community meetings, any training, in-service, or committees pertaining to or required by the job.
  • Assist in orientation and training of new team members as directed by Supervisor. Participate with Disaster/SNS.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

 

Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:

As per class specifications.  Bilingual Preferred, Data entry, computers skills, SHIP, Excel, word, Outlook, knowledge of basic medical terminology, skills in using medical instrument or testing equipment, taking vital signs, ability to keep accurate records.  Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs. and other class specifications.

Licensure/registration/certification requirements (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite): Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or comparable, valid CPR and First Aid and a valid Florida Driver’s license.

Other job-related requirements for this position:

The incumbent in this position is responsible for the integrity and confidentiality of data sets under his/her control, and under the direct   supervision of the DOH-Lake Nursing Program Specialist.

Working hours: (A) Daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (B) Total hours in workweek 40 (C) Explain any variation in work (split shift, rotation, etc.)

 

This position work hours will coincide with the Lake County School Board student calendar and will be scheduled to work the DOH-Lake clinics during the major periods when school is scheduled to be closed i.e. Winter Break, Spring Break and summer months.  Also, see flex schedule approved by administrator.

 

In the event of an emergency, this health department is required to perform emergency operations functions. You may be required to work before, during and/or beyond your normal work hours or days in a special needs shelter, red cross shelter, emergency operations command center (EOCC), or to perform other emergency functions.
