The Work You Will Do:

OPS Park Ranger- 37971260

16 – 28 hrs weekly

 

An opportunity for a self-motivated, hard-working individual, to provide maintenance, visitor services, resource management, administration and park protection.  This park maintains a very high occupancy rate on 68 campsites, and the main duties will focus on routine maintenance, cleaning and visitor services. The applicant must be able to work rotating shifts.  Position typically works 2-3, 8-hour closing shifts per week.

This 145-acre park located on barrier island is named for Florida folk singer and storyteller Gamble Rogers. Swim and play in the surf of the Atlantic Ocean, build castles in the golden-brown coquina sand or watch pelicans glide along the dunes and ocean waves. 

Anglers can catch red drum, whiting, flounder and trout from the banks of the river or along the beach, with toes in the sand.  Take a walk and explore the plant and animal life in the shady maritime hammock or enjoy a picnic with watermelon and ice cream at one of the park’s many sheltered tables.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

MAINTENANCE - Maintain cleanliness of grounds and facilities including restrooms, bathhouses, campsites, day use facilities, picnic areas, trails, boardwalks, boat ramp, shop buildings, and all other necessary facilities. Preventative and corrective maintenance of these facilities along with minor construction projects, electrical and plumbing repairs.  Preventative and corrective maintenance to equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, kayaks/canoes, vehicles, ATVs, UTVs, golf carts, power tools and chainsaws.

VISITOR SERVICES - Explain facilities and services provided for public use, enjoyment and education to all visitors.  Responds to visitor needs in a tactful and courteous manner; understand and apply rules, directives, policies, laws and regulations. 

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT - Participate in natural and cultural resource activities of the park such, mainly non-native plant removal and treatment.

ADMINISTRATION – Complete timesheets online and keep up with email correspondence.  Complete forms and logs as required related to vehicle mileage, equipment repairs, wildlife sightings, etc.

PROTECTIONPerforms routine patrols and security checksEnsures park rules are enforced pertaining to all natural, historical and archaeological facilities and resources and use thereof for enjoyment of the visitor.

Performs related work as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES, REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION:

  • Ability to maintain and clean all park facilities
  • Ability to maintain park grounds through the use of standard grounds keeping equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of Florida weather
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to work a rotating schedule including holidays and weekends
  • Ability to deal with visitor inquiries in a tactful, efficient and courteous manner; understand and apply rules, directives, policies
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing and electrical work
  • Ability to operate vehicles including small trucks and UTVs

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Maintain Valid driver’s license
  • Successful outcome of background and fingerprint checks
