Your Specific Responsibilities:

Duties involve:

Lab Services:

 

  • Collects blood specimens (Venous and finger sticks/heel sticks) on adult and pediatric patients following laboratory procedures and universal precautions.
  • Prepare and submit samples to various laboratories.
  • Perform variety of standard laboratory tests as directed, following clearly defined lab procedures, including but not limited to pregnancy test, In house labs – such as rapid HIV, and RPR testing, urine tests.
  • Operate a variety of routine laboratory equipment.
  • As assigned performs audits and prepares reports of lab results and lab activities.
  • Perform audit, review and reconcile the e-Lab Messaging Error Report.
  •  Maintain required testing labs.
  • Completes client notifications as directed.
  • Document laboratory results in the Electronic Medical Record as needed.
  • Verifies receipt of specimens sent to external labs.
  • Assist with the laboratory inventory procedures as needed.
  • Clean and maintain equipment in the lab.
  • Complies with all lab certification requirements.
  • Support clinic operations by helping in text messaging for STD clients and HIV test counseling.
  • Orient clinical staff to lab operations.
  • Percepts clinical staff in learning venipuncture skills.
  • Attend meetings and seminars to further knowledge in technical advancement of lab tests.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and within the realm of the classifications of License Practical Nurse (LPN).
  • Perform waved lab tests as ordered.
  • Prepare specimens for pick-up.
  • Complete all documentation required related to lab work.
  • Maintain lab area cleanliness.

 

Provider appointments (Primary Care, Family Planning, HIV/AIDS and STD):

  • Stay aware of time and timely patient flow.
  • Calls “no show” clients, documents reason for “no show” and encourage client to reschedule. 
  • Verifies immunization needs for all infants through adults.
  • Record medication reconciliation.  Enter prescription renewal requests.
  • Have client in exam room ready for provider at or before provider time.
  • Assist provider with exam and/or treatment as requested.
  • Remind provider with a knock on the exam room door within last 5 minutes of the provider time.
  • Administer and/or issue medication as ordered by medical provider.
  • Perform EKG, vision screening and hearing screening as ordered.
  • Counsel/educate clients regarding treatment plans and health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Verify medications have been ordered, refills provided, and lab orders (including opt-out HIV screening and Hepatitis program eligibility) have been entered prior to client departure.
  • Process referrals.
  • Properly document client services and codes and interactions in electronic medical record in “real time”.
  • Offer client Continuity of Care Document (CCD) or refer client to “Health Vault” for CCD.
  • Explain Prescription Assistance Programs (PAP) and client responsibilities.
  • Verify that PAP and/or ADAP medications are recorded on client medication list.
  • Make sure that client has prescription for PAP medications or alternative until PAP medications arrive.
  • Clean exam rooms with disinfectant between clients.
  • Perform daily exam room set-up.
  • Maintain exam room supply inventory and restock exam rooms.
  • Notify supervisor regarding supply or equipment needs.
  • Case Management to include lab results f/u, telephone call f/u, no show f/u, etc. (other duties as needed to meet client needs)
  • Work Case Management list as assigned.

Immunization:

  • Able to utilize Florida Shots and documents in “real time”.
  • Register clients into Florida Shots
  • Input records into Florida Shots
  • Able to produce Florida Shots reports as requested.
  • Able to program thermometers, monitor temperatures and complete reports on vaccine refrigerators and freezers as requested.
  • Able to pack vaccines for transport.
  • Certifies Immunization records, 680’s.
  • Accepts delegation to do religious exemptions, 681’s.
  • Administers immunizations as needed to infants through adults.
  • Prepared immunization history and give to parents with education on when next vaccines are due.
  • Completes vaccine reminder calls, emails, and letters as assigned.
  • Update Florida Shots record related to being an active client, or inactivated client.

General Clinic Support Duties:

  • Document all client communication and care in electronic medical record in real time.
  • Serve as preceptor to new employees and/or students.
  • Registers clients for care.
  • Check In client for care.
  • Record daily activities, complete trainings and document as required (EARs, Time Sheets, EDP)
  • Order, receive, stock and inventory medical supplies and medications as requested.
  • Maintaining/servicing/cleaning clinic equipment.  Including sterilization as needed.
  • Emergency box, AED, oxygen and lab alarm checks daily or as required.
  • Maintains clean and orderly workspace.
  • Scans documents as needed in real time.
  • Completes HIV/ADS 500/501 training and yearly updates.
  • Direct to clerical staff all questions regarding charges and billing.
  • Able to open and close (lock and set alarm) the clinic as needed.

Professional Development:

  • Attend staff conferences, in-services education programs and seminars to further professional knowledge and

                               as required for professional license.

  • You may be required to have access to a privately-owned automobile to perform duties such as attending meetings or trainings.  You will be reimbursed for this travel at the state-approved rate.
  • Will be required to serve on one or more Department of Health committees representing the Bear Run Clinic.
  • Class Specifications of a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Performs all the other duties as required.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Phlebotomy skills
  • Customer Service Skills
  • Flexibility
  • Able to use Microsoft Word.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum –

  • Must have an LPN in the state of Florida with a clear/active license.
  • Must have at least one year of clinical experience in a hospital setting or at least one year of experience in an out-patient clinical setting.
  • Must be willing to be trained to perform phlebotomy.             
  • Must be willing to administer vaccinations.
  • Must be willing to work with diverse populations.               
  • Must have a Florida driver’s license.
  • Must be BLS/AED Certified.                                            

Preferred –

  • Experience with “real time” electronic medical record documentation. 
  • Experience with Florida shots and/or immunization.         
  • Bilingual.
  • Experience working with a HIV/AIDS population.     
  • Experience working in public health.
