MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

A bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Forestry or a related field from a Society of American Foresters accredited college or university; or

 

Anticipated receipt of a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Forestry or a related field from a Society of American Foresters accredited college or university within six (6) months of the closing date of this advertisement.

A bachelor’s and/or master’s degrees in Forestry or a related field obtained outside the United States must either: 1) be obtained from a Society of American Foresters accredited college or university; or 2) curriculum must include at least two (2) of the following four (4) courses: Silviculture, Dendrology, Forest Mensuration or Forest Management.

JOB DUTIES:

 

This is a highly technical and physically demanding position responsible for a variety of forestry related programs on Etoniah Creek State Forest (ECSF). The incumbent must be able to deal with forestry and environmental issues as they apply to the ECSF’s management objectives.

 

Responsible for the administration of all timber sales on ECSF. Some assistance may be required for Welaka State Forest and Carl Duval Moore State Forest and Park for future timber sales as well. Duties include the coordination and participation of the marking, cruising, and the analyses of cruise data; entry of sales into the Forest Management System and development of necessary sale maps using ARCGIS; and ensuring that the conditions of the timber sale agreements are not violated such as the cutting of unmarked trees, leaving an area littered, and unnecessary damage to unmarked trees during regular inspections of all assigned sales. This position may be required to assist with Forest Inventory Analysis (FIA) work.

 

Conducts the annual forest inventory, including stand description of various timber stand conditions for the purpose of describing present stand conditions and prescribing recommendations for silvicultural and other treatments. Performs an analysis of the data using current state lands inventory computer programs and prepares the stand data for the state lands resource analysis coordinator.

 

Provides wildfire and emergency response support as directed. Assists in the development of smoke management, wildfire prevention, prescribed fire, pre-suppression burning plans, and hazardous fuels mitigation. Assists in the enforcement of Florida’s open burning laws and regulations.

 

Assists the Forestry Supervisor and the Forest Area Supervisor with the planning, implementation, and coordination of the prescribed burning program on ECSF. Participates in the implementation of prescribed burning on ECSF and other forests as needed.

 

Maintains all GIS and the geo-data base of the forest. Assists in the detection and control of insect and disease attacks on forestland, including the administration of the forest–wide salvage sale. Assists in the planning, implementation, and coordination of reforestation, timber stand improvement, infrastructure, and recreation on ECSF.

 

Performs other related work as assigned, which may include the handling of revenue.
