Your Specific Responsibilities:

Interprets spoken passages from one language into another:  Provides consecutive or simultaneous interpretation between languages.  Translates documents and other material from one language to another.

 

Interpreting/Translating Activities:  Provides simultaneous or consecutive interpretation of telephone hearings for claimants and their witnesses.  Translates all documents presented before or after hearings by claimants, witnesses, employers, the Reemployment Assistance Appeals Commission, and other Appeals Offices.  Translates correspondence, memoranda, reports, and other documents from one language into another.  Assists in preparation and updating of translation of agency forms, documents, and websites.  Trains interpreters and translators to agency standards.  Interprets for individuals in need of assistance at the Appeals Office by phone.

 

Scheduling Activities:  Schedules and arranges interpreter assignments for appeals Offices within the Bureau.  Verifies status of the next day’s interpreters/translator’s assignments.

 

Reports:  Creates, prepares and maintains necessary reports and forms, such as Interpreter Request Forms, timeline reports of time spent translating and interpreting, and monthly, quarterly, and yearly interpreter/translator activity reports.

 

Other Activities:  If required, travels to offices within 50 miles of Home Office to provide translation and interpretation services.  Assists support staff in various tasks such as stuffing envelopes, distributing faxes, typing translations of decisions, notices of hearing and letters, and reviews translations for quality control.

 

Annually review the CONNECT system and the Employee Florida portal for quality checks to ensure that Limited English Proficiency (LEP) individuals are provided meaningful access.

Performs other related duties as required.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

  • Knowledge of reemployment assistance law, rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to listen effectively.
  • Knowledge of legal and administrative hearing terminology. 
  • Ability to speak, translate and interpret Spanish.

 

Qualifications:

As a condition of pre-employment eligibility, a Level 2 security background screening is required, which consists of fingerprinting and a check of local, state, and national law enforcement records. 

Minimum:

  • Duties and responsibilities of this position must be performed at the official work site of the Department.
  • Travel may be required to travel.
  • The Selected candidate should be able to work from a secure location in their home.
  • Spanish translator with a higher education certificate or college degree. 

 

Pay:  $22.73/hr.
